Battery Replacement

Unscrew the light body and insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the light body back on.

Charging

  1. Open the anti-dust cover to reveal the charging port, then connect the USB Type-C end of the charging cable to the flashlight.

  2. The indicator will display red while charging, and will turn to green when fully charged.

  3. Once charging is completed, be sure to close the anti-dust cover.

Note:

  1. The normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 rechargeable battery is approximately 2.5 hours from depletion to fully charged with an 18 W or higher-power fast charging adapter.

  2. Recharge a stored light every four months to maintain optimum performance of the battery.

  3. Only Eco output can be operated while charging.

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L21 Series 21700 battery.

Battery level indication

Each time the light is turned on, the battery level indicator will automatically display the battery status for 3 seconds.

Green light on: saturated 100% - 85%

Green light flashes: sufficient 85% - 50%

Red light on: poor 50% - 25%

Red light flashes: critical 25% - 1%

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L21 Series 21700 battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The flashlight will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 60°C/140°F or above, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C/140°F, the light will gradually recall the standard output level.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below 3.0 V, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Eco output is reached. When this happens in Eco output, the battery level indicator blinks red to remind you to replace or recharge the battery. To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work till the battery level runs out.

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L21 Series 21700 rechargeable battery.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Unscrew the light body half a turn or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: Poor battery level.
Solution: Replace or recharge the battery (Ensure the battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Warning

  • Do NOT place this flashlight in the reach of children!
  • Do NOT shine the flashlight directly into the eyes of anyone!
  • Do NOT place light head near flammable objects, high temperatures can cause objects to overheat and become flammable/ignite!
  • Do NOT use the flashlight in inappropriate ways such as holding the unit in your mouth, doing so could cause serious personal injury or death if the flashlight or internal battery fails!
  • This flashlight will accumulate a significant amount of heat while operating, resulting in a high temperature of the flashlight shell. Pay close attention to avoid burns.
  • Unscrew the light body half a turn or remove the battery from the flashlight to prevent accidental activation when the flashlight is placed in a closed-in and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks!
  • The LED of this flashlight is not replaceable; so the whole flashlight will need to be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its lifespan.

Great Light with some quirks

I've owned 2 others and just ordered a 3rd only because I keep losing them at work. Haste makes waste. I've also now ordered a headlamp because I love their build quality. On with my review.

The first one I had was not rechargeable. It was great. The second was rechargeable and what a sweet add-on. My third is on its way. Been owning a Fenix for about 6+ years now I think.

The good:
Very bright in the highest setting. I normally could not use this intensity because it would blind me. It will prevent me from reading data plate information. However when I needed the higher setting, it worked great for my walk-around inspections.

Build quality:
A very well built product. Great materials used. They fit great in your hand. The parts go well together. Great machining and detail in the machining.

The bad:
The power setting switch. It is difficult to feel for it to change the power output at night. It is lit, which makes it easy to see but I think it turns off after a few moments. Now I don't truly recall but what I do recall is fumbling with the light, turning it, in search of the power setting. It's not going to be a fast find. Especially by feel.

Heat:
In its highest and second highest setting, the light and body will get hot. You'll have to be cautious of this. It's not scalding, but it's very warm. It will limit the output, by design, at a set temperature. I hardly ran mine at the highest setting for more than 7 to 10 minutes during a walk-around inspection. I do know, at the end of my walk-around inspection, the light would be hot!

The power ON button:
Many times, in my old better build quality orignal fenix pouch, the light would get turned on. Regardless of the position in the pouch, facing up or down, the light sometimes would be on. One time I noticed a great heat sensation on my left side and it was the light, it was on at its highest setting. From that point on, I always made sure that I would reduce the intensity to low prior to holstering it.

The pouch:
The newer pouch my last one came with, was terrible. The fit was way too tight to facilitate ease of use. I went back to the first pouch, which was off way much butter quality and design. The newer pouch was of lower quality making it unusable and annoying. That was back in 2021. I hope my new V2.0 will come with an original or improved pouch design. The pouch matters. It's part of the experience and use of the light. Mind you, this was without the clip. If you want to keep the clip on your light, you can't use the pouch. It will tear up the pouch's low quality material. It's just too tight.

That's my review. Whether you agree with their price point or not, it's the quality. Yes, you can get similar products out there for a less but you won't get quality or the craftsmanship. I trust Fenix and their work. They remind me of Anker products. They cost more but they are of great quality and craftsmanship. You won't be disappointed. If you are dissatisfied, contact them.

I'm not an affiliate and this review is 100% my own personal experience with their product.

Hi Miguel and thank you for the review We have found that it's helpful to line up the pocket clip with the side switch if you are having difficulty finding it.

Great Got Better

I bought the PD36R several months ago and love it. I bought the 2.0 for my daughter. A great flashlight got better with more output and faster charging.

The Fenix PD36R rechargeable flashlight is just about everything I was looking for in a small, but powerful light. I have one suggestion in future development of such flashlights. When in the dark and needing to increase the intensity of the light fast, especially in an emergency, it is nearly impossible to find the button to switch from say "low" intensity to higher intensity, because you cannot see the button in the dark. I found this out the hard way. If you are outside in the dark without your finger on the switch that increases intensity, you cannot see it. The fix would be to add a small amount of illumination to the button. Otherwise, this is a super product, and I would buy it again.

Awesome Fenix PD36R flashlight

This little gem truly “lights up the night”. Couldn’t ask for something better or more powerful. Plus it’s easy to use. Fits nicely in my hand. Only thing I could wish is if that clip could be removable.

Hi Crystal! The clip on the PD36R V2 is removeable. It's snapped on fairly tight, so that it doesn't come off easily when using it, but it does indeed remove.

More Tacticool than practical.

My three star rating autoposted to a 5 star rating. So now it's one star.

Hi Jason - please note we do not have the ability to change the star ratings. If we attempt to change anything on a review, you will receive an email notification informing you that we edited your review. In fact, I just read the prior review, and replied to it, and thought it was odd that you gave it a 5 star review based on your comments.
