*21700 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Only using quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion. Cell damage or short circuiting caused by using this type of battery is considered user induced damage and is not covered by any Fenix warranty or liability.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the light body and insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the light body back on.

Charging

  1. Open the anti-dust cover to reveal the charging port, then connect the USB Type-C end of the charging cable to the flashlight.

  2. The indicator will display red while charging, and will turn to green when fully charged.

  3. Once charging is completed, be sure to close the anti-dust cover.

Note:

  1. The normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 rechargeable battery is approximately 2.5 hours from depletion to fully charged with an 18 W or higher-power fast charging adapter.

  2. Recharge a stored light every four months to maintain optimum performance of the battery.

  3. Only Eco output can be operated while charging.

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L21 Series 21700 battery.

Battery level indication

Each time the light is turned on, the battery level indicator will automatically display the battery status for 3 seconds.

Green light on: saturated 100% - 85%

Green light flashes: sufficient 85% - 50%

Red light on: poor 50% - 25%

Red light flashes: critical 25% - 1%

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L21 Series 21700 battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The flashlight will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 60°C/140°F or above, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C/140°F, the light will gradually recall the standard output level.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below 3.0 V, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Eco output is reached. When this happens in Eco output, the battery level indicator blinks red to remind you to replace or recharge the battery. To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work till the battery level runs out.

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L21 Series 21700 rechargeable battery.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Unscrew the light body half a turn or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: Poor battery level.
Solution: Replace or recharge the battery (Ensure the battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Warning

  • Do NOT place this flashlight in the reach of children!
  • Do NOT shine the flashlight directly into the eyes of anyone!
  • Do NOT place light head near flammable objects, high temperatures can cause objects to overheat and become flammable/ignite!
  • Do NOT use the flashlight in inappropriate ways such as holding the unit in your mouth, doing so could cause serious personal injury or death if the flashlight or internal battery fails!
  • This flashlight will accumulate a significant amount of heat while operating, resulting in a high temperature of the flashlight shell. Pay close attention to avoid burns.
  • Unscrew the light body half a turn or remove the battery from the flashlight to prevent accidental activation when the flashlight is placed in a closed-in and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks!
  • The LED of this flashlight is not replaceable; so the whole flashlight will need to be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its lifespan.

Mostly Awesome

The brightness on this is great, I have a 2 1/2 acre property and I can see the front fence or the back fence with ease.

I was having trouble finding a flashlight that was the same size as a different brand flashlight I’d carried for over 10 years , this one was the closest match in length.

The only problem is that the strobe effect is a separate button then the regular illumination button at the back of the flashlight. My hand is almost not long enough to push both buttons at the same time so the strobe effect may require two hands to use, no good if you also need to handle a sidearm. That is my fault for not understanding the product description better, and it would be the only reason that I would not recommend this flashlight.
Aside from that, I love that I can plug the flashlight into recharge it, and it also feels really solid and well-made in hand. It is a good general purpose flashlight more than a specialized tactical flashlight in my opinion, but still worth the money.

Hi there - thank you for the review. Please note that there is no time you would need to be pushing the tail switch and the side switch. If you need to engage strobe, once the light is turned on, you just hold down that side switch .5 seconds until strobe starts. Then just click it again to turn off strobe. But there is never a time you would need to push both buttons at the same time.

Long lasting brightness and power! These lights are absolutely the best I've ever owned. I introduced them to some coworkers and they fell in love with them as well. Engravings are spot on.

Great light. Engraving is bad again

The light is great but the engraving sux. I have 3 PD36s now (about a dozen Fenix's total). 1 plain and 2 with engraving. The 1st with engraving I wasn't happy with and said so in the review. They asked for pics then never responded back.

This 2nd engraved pd36 is bad too... this one is worse.

You can see in the pic the circle isn't even round. It's oblong and what worse is that it's not even symmetrical. The arc on the left doesn't even match the arc on the right.

Looks worse in person.

Hi Dan - we did respond to your email back in January - it may have gone to a spam folder or something, but I just forwarded it over to you. We are always more than happy to review an engraving and make things right if the image is not up to your standards. You can reach out to our warranty team to set up a return to send this flashlight back in and we can get a new light out if it is determined that the mark was not lined up properly, resulting in an oblong circle as opposed to round.

My PD36R

Bright small highly functional light. Only issue for me and my job is the heat generated around the lense area.
