Operating Instructions

On/Off

• On: With the lamp turned off, press and hold the switch for 0.5 seconds to turn on the white light or double click the switch to turn on the red light.

• Off: In any mode, press and hold the switch for 0.5 seconds to turn off the lamp.

Mode Switching

In Spotlight mode, press and hold the switch for 1.2 seconds to switch to the previously used output of the Floodlight mode.

In Floodlight mode, press and hold the switch for 1.2 seconds to switch to the previously used output of the Spotlight mode.
 

Output Selection

• Spotlight mode: Single click the switch to cycle through Low→Med→High→Turbo.
• Floodlight mode: Single click the switch to cycle through Low→Med→High.
• Red light mode: Single click the switch to cycle through Low→Med→High.

Intelligent Memory Circuit

The headlamp automatically memorizes the previously used output level and mode excluding Red light.

When turned on again, the previously used output level and mode will be recalled.

*When turned on in Spotlight mode, the headlamp will activate in High output if it was previously switched off in Turbo output.

Intelligent Brightness Downshift Function

On/off

• On: With the lamp turned off, press and hold the switch for 10 seconds, and the headlamp will blink twice in the Low output of the Floodlight mode, indicating that this function is enabled.
• Off: With the lamp turned off, press and hold the switch for 10 seconds, and the headlamp will blink 8 times in the Low output of the Floodlight mode, indicating that this function is disabled.

Intelligent downshift

When the light head is close to an illuminated object (about 2.36''/60 mm) for more than 1.5 seconds in Spotlight mode or Floodlight mode, the headlamp will automatically reduce the brightness level to 30 lumens to avoid potential danger/burns caused by high temperatures. When the light head is away from the illuminated object for more than 0.8 seconds, the headlamp gradually recalls the previously used brightness level.

Battery Specifications

*18350 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Using low-quality batteries or mishandling batteries (such as short-circuiting or overheating) could lead to combustion and jeopardize the safety of users and property. Any adverse effects resulting from the use of low-quality batteries are not covered by any Fenix warranty or liability. Using quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion.

*CR123A batteries should be reserved for emergency use only. Do not recharge while using a CR123A battery! Using a CR123A battery will reduce available output levels and shorten runtime. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the battery cover counterclockwise and insert the battery in accordance with the polarity marks, then screw the battery cover back on.

Charging

1. Open the anti-dust cover and plug the USB Type-C end of the charging cable into the charging port of the lamp.
2. The indicator will display red while charging and will turn green when fully charged.
3. Once charging is completed, be sure to unplug the charging cable and close the anti-dust cover.
4. Charging voltage: 5 V. Charging power: 5 W (5 V/1 A). The normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery is approximately 2.5 hours from depleted to fully charged (This product does not support fast charging).

Note:

1. The headlamp can be operated while charging.
2. When the battery level drops below 3.3 V, only the Low output of each mode can be activated.
3. Recharge a stored headlamp every four months to maintain the optimum performance of the battery.
4. Only use a certified USB charging adapter that complies with the government safety standards of the country or region where this headlamp is sold.

*This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery, a Fenix ARB-L18-1100 battery, a Fenix ARB-L18-1100P battery, a Fenix ARB-L16-800UP battery, or a Fenix ARB-L16-700UP battery.

Battery Level Indication

With the lamp turned off, single click the switch to check the current battery level. Single click once again and the battery level indicator will go out, or without any operation the battery level indicator will last for 3 seconds. Each time the lamp is turned on, the battery level indicator will also indicate the current battery level and will last for 3 seconds. 

• Green light on: 100% - 80%

• Green light flashes: 80% - 50%

• Red light on: 50% - 20%

• Red light flashes: 20% - 1%

*This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery, a Fenix ARB-L18-1100 battery, a Fenix ARB-L18-1100P battery, a Fenix ARB-L16-800UP battery, or a Fenix ARB-L16-700UP battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 55°C/131°F or above, it will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 55°C/131°F, the headlamp will gradually recall the preset output level.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the lowest output is reached. When this happens in the lowest output, the battery level indicator blinks red to remind users to recharge or replace the battery in a timely manner.

*This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery, a Fenix ARB-L18-1100 battery, a Fenix ARB-L18-1100P battery, a Fenix ARB-L16-800UP battery, or a Fenix ARB-L16-700UP battery.

Headband Assembly

Notice: The headband is factory assembled and ready to use right out of the package.

Adjust the headband by sliding the buckle to the required length.

Usage and Maintenance

• Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lamp and will void the warranty.
• Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery. 

• If the lamp will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the lamp could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.

• Take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.

• Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the O-ring with an approved spare.

• Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:

  A: Poor battery level.

  Solution: Recharge or replace the battery.

  B: The contact or contact point of the battery or headlamp is dirty.

  Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

Warning

• Do NOT place this headlamp in the reach of children!

• Do NOT shine the headlamp directly into the eyes of anyone!

• Do NOT place light head near flammable objects, high temperatures can cause objects to overheat and become flammable/ignite!

• Do NOT use the headlamp in inappropriate ways such as holding the unit in your mouth, doing so could cause serious personal injury or death if the headlamp or internal battery fails!

• This headlamp will accumulate a significant amount of heat while operating, resulting in a high temperature of the lamp shell. Pay close attention to avoid burns!

• Remove the battery or unscrew the battery cover to prevent accidental activation when the headlamp is placed in a closed and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks!

• The LEDs of this headlamp are not replaceable; so the whole lamp will need to be replaced if any one of the LEDs reaches the end of its lifespan.

What kind of LEDs are used in HM55R RENEGADE? Does Fenix offer to replace LEDs?

A: The HM55R uses one Luminus SST25 LED, one Luminus SST20-Ra70 LED, one 1414 red LED; with a lifespan of 50,000 hours each.
Fenix does not provide LED replacement services for the time being, and users are not recommended to replace the LEDs independently, which may affect product performance and cause product damage.

Is HM55R RENEGADE rechargeable? How long is the charging time?

A: Yes, the HM55R RENEGADE is rechargeable via its USB Type-C port. The normal charging time is approximately 2.5 hours from depleted to fully charged.

How do I prevent myself from accidentally activating the HM55R RENEGADE?

A: Just remove the battery to prevent accidental activation.

What’s the Intelligent Downshift (proximity sensor) feature on the HM55R RENEGADE?

A: The HM55R RENEGADE includes an Intelligent Downshift proximity sensor that can automatically reduce brightness when the headlamp detects an object close to the light. This feature is turned OFF by default and can be easily activated as needed.

Why does the HM55R RENEGADE downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

A: There are actually two reasons for this:

• Intelligent Overheat Protection: The headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 55°C or above, the headlamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature.
• Low-voltage Warning: When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the lowest output level is reached.

Why does the HM55R RENEGADE flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

1. Poor battery level, which you can fix by recharging or replacing the battery.
2. The contact point or contact of the battery or headlamp is dirty. If that’s the case, clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

What kind of battery can be used in HM55R RENEGADE?

A: We strongly recommend using a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery. Other batteries (e.g., CR123A) are not recommended, as an unmatched battery may cause the headlamp to fail to work normally.

Can the spotlight and floodlight be combined on the HM55R RENEGADE?

A: No. The HM55R RENEGADE features separate spotlight and floodlights that cannot be combined. You can switch between spotlight modes (4 levels), floodlight modes (3 levels), and red light modes (3 levels) independently.

What colors is the HM55R RENEGADE available in?

A: The HM55R RENEGADE is part of the exclusive RENEGADE line and is available in three colors: black, OD green, and orange topo.

What is the IP rating of the HM55R RENEGADE? Does its USB Type-C port feature inner waterproof treatment?

A: IP68. Yes, its USB Type-C port features inner waterproof treatment.

Can the headband be removed and replaced?

A: Yes. We offer the AFH-04 with several different styles to choose from.

How is the HM55R RENEGADE different from the HM55R?

A: The HM55R RENEGADE is an exclusive version of the HM55R with several key differences:

• Color Options: The RENEGADE is available in three distinctive colors — black, OD green, and orange topo, while the standard HM55R only comes in black.
• Lighting Modes: The RENEGADE features 10 lighting modes (4 spotlight, 3 floodlight, 3 red light), while the standard HM55R has 9 lighting modes. The standard HM55R also allows you to combine spotlight and floodlight simultaneously, while the RENEGADE operates these light sources independently, they cannot be combined.
• Headband: The RENEGADE features replaceable headbands sold separately, while the standard HM55R includes a factory-assembled headband.

What should I do if the HM55R RENEGADE needs repair?

A: 

1. 15-day replacement: Fenix will replace identical or equal products with documented manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase.
2. 5-year free repair: Fenix will repair a light free of charge within 5 years (rechargeable battery and other accessories: 1 year) of purchase if problems develop with normal use.
3. Lifetime limited warranty: If repair is required after 5 years from the date of purchase, Fenix will charge for parts. The total repair fee is dictated by the cost of the replaced materials.
