Battery Specifications

Type Dimensions Nominal Voltage Recommended
Li-ion Battery 21700 3.6V Fenix ARB-L21 Series
Li-ion Battery 18650 3.6V Fenix ARB-L18 Series

  • It is not recommended to use the CR123A or 16340 battery.
  • Fenix 18650 or 21700 Li-ion battery is recommended for maintaining perfect lighting performance.
  • The Fenix dedicated ALF-18 battery holder should be used together when using 18650 Li-ion battery.

*18650 /21700 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Only use quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion; but cell damage or short circuiting are potential risks the user assumes.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the tail cap and insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the tail cap back on.

Usage and Maintenance of the TK22 Flashlight

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using a high quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Unscrew the tail cap half a turn or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation. Recharge a stored battery every four months to maintain optimal battery performance.
  • When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this happens in Low output mode, the flashlight blinks three times every five minutes to remind you to replace the battery. To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work till the battery runs out completely.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently, or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace battery (ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

This flashlight is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the flashlight directly into anyone’s eyes.

The guys in my family love these, maybe a little too much as they. The feeling you get is a nice solid build when held in hand. The trapezoidal threads are hard anodized to promote strength and a long service life. You unscrew the cap to get to the 21700 battery and use a USB-C Cable. When I used a low power source (Car usb) it wouldn’t charge to 100 but my 25 watt Samsung charger did well.

I’d recommend this for anyone who needs a durable light.

Keep in mind the charger port is on the battery and not external on the flashlight body like some others.

    This is a perfect flaslight

    Best of the best !!!

I have two Fenix flashlights, the PD40R and the TK22 UE. I love them both, but if I could only go with one, it would be the TK22. The PD40R is a good home flashlight, and the TK22 is more of a tactical flashlight. It has a push button activation switch at the back of light, which you could use for Morse code if necessary, 4 lumen settings, and even though the TK22 is only rated for 1600 lumens, the highest setting has a noticeably brighter throw than the 3000 lumen PD40R. It also has a slightly bigger bezel with an aggressive design for breaking things, like windows or heads if you need to use it as a defensive tool. It’s a more masculine flashlight than the PD40R and feels more comfortable in my hand. I haven’t owned it long enough to talk about what I’ve put it through, or how it works in wet weather, but so far it’s the best flashlight I have ever owned. Just like with everything else, flashlight have come a long way in the past several years. It’s amazing how much more effective and brighter these little flashlights are, compared to the bigger ones that take two or three “D” or “DD” batteries. The only downside is owning one of these flashlights can become addictive. They have so many different models to choose from and they all look pretty cool. They would make for good Christmas gifts for close friends or children going away to college.

The flashlight is awesome. It is very bright and clear. The different brightness levels are perfect for my job. The case fits perfectly on my belt. I highly recommend this flashlight.

I like the night. Even so, I can’t see in the dark so I do occasionally need illumination. I got the Fenix TK22 UE Tactical Flashlight because it looked rugged and uses a 21700 for power. The included 5,000 mAh battery has circuitry inside the cell’s wrapper for charging with a USB-C cable and won’t fit in a charger built for 21700s, however standard 21700s power the flashlight just fine so when the included cell finally dies, I have backups ready to go. I have large hands and the fit is perfect. The only negative is that you can’t focus the beam, but it isn’t bad even at a distance – depends on your application. The selectable intensities are nice. The low setting is fine for most of what I use it for, but it’s nice to have the extra brightness when needed. I don’t use the attached belt clip, but imagine it helps with grip when using the light with gloves. I don’t consider myself a flashlight aficionado, but you’d probably be happy with this one.

Hi Jeff – the 5000U battery is compatible with the following battery chargers: ARE-A2, ARE-A4, ARE-D1 OR ARE-D2. Additionally, the TK22UE comes with a USB-C cord for recharging the battery via the port on the battery.

    Nice and BRIGHT!

  8. David (verified owner)

This light is really nice the only reason I did not give it 5 starts is I wish there was a battery indicator in the light so you know when you need to charge it

  9. Bill Petchprom (verified owner)

    Simply amazing!

  10. Frank M. (verified owner)

Great light for quick grab around house. It’s a good size and puts out a Hollywood blaze. The company is very supportive in resolving issues.

  11. Anonymous (verified owner)

As always, a quality product from Fenix

  12. Joseph S. (verified owner)

Well built, many brightness modes, and powerful. Will be used daily. I expect to be very happy with this light for a long time.

  13. Kris K. (verified owner)

Never thought I’d spend this kind of money on a flashlight. My buddy had a similar model (tk15) and he likes mine more in terms of light production. His is smaller and a shade more handy but this is definitely brighter. No complaints.

  14. Jason C. (verified owner)

    Fantastic quality as always

Hello. to begin, this is not an over zealous instant gratification review from getting the light yesterday, I’ve had this light for about 4 months. This is ample time to check out the features and delivery of performance from this light.

The flood to throw ratio with the light is a little throwy, with plenty of spill and a strong wide hotspot that casts a narrow beam a few hundred yards. it is a bit of a hot thrower indoors, could benefit from an accessorized diffuser lens with a screw bezel or a cap style diffuser. But it isn’t bad, just tasks within less than 6 feet require you to bounce the light off the ceiling or wall, or use the lowest setting and sweep.

construction: the steel bezel has the hardened tips, which are a hazard to other flashlights so never self-queen this light, -it belongs with you 24-7. Only weakness could be using the glass lense in place of a tir optic, but I’ve dropped it onto concrete with no sign of problems.

User interface, like it says the 4 levels are changed with side switch, which cannot turn the light on or off. this makes it solid for accidental turn on, as the side switch doesn’t have to be locked out. It is convenient and simple. You can leave it ready to blast on or feather up from low. The lowest setting is great at 30 lumens you can tell the light is working without changing modes even when its daylight out. But a lower setting secretly accessed like the strobe, like holding for an extra low mode the side switch, and double clicking for strobe, would be a nice feature but could complicate the design. perhaps a different mode group from a programmable light, he standard it ships in, then a different grouping with a 1 or 2 lumen low mode.

Then there’s the turbo. bright enough at 1600 lumens @41k candela, the turbo is behind some lights this big including companies own’ PD40R in maximum performance, but the runtime at the turbo output is impressive, holding it for around 15 minutes. The other VERY important note, is the light still reaches the 1600 lumens with an 18650, something many lights with 21700 cannot do.
The interesting relationship of max performance vs. maximum reliable output and consistency is well balanced with this light. It also helps the minimum runtime and minimum efficiency to have not such a ridiculous 2000 3000 or 4000 lumen output. But this is a choice, not an excuse. You may make a different choice.

Secrets: pocket clip is great, adequate for carry in carpenters jeans pocket. The light is slippery, although the sleek design looks yummy, the one way lines and knurling leave something to be desired for grip and is my only operations concern for serious users. The carbide tips really do scratch stuff, place down with caution. The carbide tips with reinforced bezel material cause a flower pedal design flaw in the spill. Rollstop is effective. The 18650 battery adapter is needed, but is very well designed with a spring inside.

Excellent flashlight. I carry it everyday with other lights including the LD02 for close work, I’ve never ran the battery down and am often shocked it is still 3.85 volts or more (75%)!

  17. David M. (verified owner)

I’m an ex-military firearms instructor and carry a tactical flashlight everyday. I recently upgraded to the TK-22 from a PD-35 and wouldn’t look back…the increased head size took one day to get used to and now I don’t even notice…highly recommend!

  18. Mark

Before I bought this light I had a PD35TAC which is a great EDC. My plan was to keep the PD35TAC as an EDC and use this light as needed. Well my plans changed as the TK22UE far exceeded my expectations and is now my EDC and my PD35TAC is now an excellent backup. After a lot of use I have not yet found any real weakness with the TK22UE.

  19. Jonathan (verified owner)

Love this flashlight it. lights up my whole living room when i was testing it. My dad was very impressed, he wants one now!

  20. Jason Griffin (verified owner)

Needs a lower setting. However a solid product that one would expect from Fenix

  21. Jessten Hower (verified owner)

It’s a nice bright flashlight, the second one I have bought, but for some reason the box was missing the USB-C cord it was supposed to come with for recharging the battery

    • Dianne

Hi Jessten – sorry to hear the box from the factory was missing that. Our warranty team has shipped out a cord to you.

  22. Kimberley

Overall excellent. My only complaint is it lacks a 1~3lm moonlight.
For outdoor you don’t want blindness in the tent. For tactical you want stealth from time to time. Moonlight is a must.

  23. Anthony T. (verified owner)

This thing is beautiful as either handheld use or otherwise. The nearfeild focal pattern is about 2″ distance, beyond which is much more uniform. Don’t put the flashlight in your pocket/bag with a phone unless its covered, the carbide tips will scratch the screen.

  24. Scott J. (verified owner)

This flashlight is amazingly bright! Very well constructed.

  25. Anonymous (verified owner)

I needed a thrower and this one is perfect for that purpose. The range is amazing and beam pattern is well balanced with right amount of flood. Runtime could be better. As always build quality is superb.

  26. Kennard Y. (verified owner)

There is so much to like about this flashlight when comparing it to competitors. First, a 16-minute full power is huge compared to 2-minutes that others have. The build quality is fantastic. Four stars due to lack of magnetic charging and better drop protection. I do like the Fenix 21700 Battery better, as it is not weirdly proprietary. I like the power select button with memory. Overall, when faced with the choice between the OLight and the Fenix, I bought the Fenix and I’m real happy with my choice.

  27. Jonathan M. (verified owner)

This light has some guts! Solid construction and hefty. But the photos don’t lie, I took this out to the Ochoco mountains and it really does throw a beam across the valley. Second light from Fenix, and I’m already thinking about what #3 is going to be.

  28. Daniel M. (verified owner)

    Excellent light.

  29. Thomas (verified owner)

Fenix is the unrivaled leader, you will not be disappointed. Superb lights & lamps for virtually every purpose. Try them and spread the word, I do.

  30. Dennis W. (verified owner)

As advertised! Quality product! I use this light to preflight an airliner. Perfect! Able to cover all areas 100%.

  31. Bob S. (verified owner)

I have used Fenix for many years on duty and without ever a failure. The product is very durable and can handle the highs and extreme lows of Minnesota weather.

  35. Ron K. (verified owner)

Excellent flashlight for the money. I like that you can remove the battery and charge it separately. Also, you can carry spare batteries and change as necessary.

  36. Richard N. (verified owner)

Ecellent bright light. Kinda wished in had a battery power indicator on the function switch like my other fenix but its all good

  37. Darren H. (verified owner)

The TK22UE is the 3rd Fenix model I’ve bought and so far and the one I like best.

I’ve been a police officer for a few years now, and I’m always on the hunt for the perfect flashlight. Usually, my go-to lights have been Surefire of Streamlight. Streamlights are good, but they do not have the brightness that I was looking for. So I decided to try the Surefire DFT and I loved it… Until it failed me on a DUI at 3 in the morning. So after doing plenty of research, I decided to go with the Fenix TK22 UE. So far, this is my new favorite light!!!! It’s super user friendly, and I haven’t had any problems with it. I love the 21700 battery that it comes with and I love how I can change the brightness. The light is incredibly bright and has been holding up well on each shift. Buy this light!

This is my 4th light from Fenix. Once again, they’ve delivered a great product. I bought this as an “all rounder” light to leave at home and not for dedicated EDC. However, I’ve pocket-carried it for a week in slacks and jeans and it’s completely possible; a little bigger and heavier than I want in my pocket all the time, but I still forgot it was there by the end of the day. It’s the light I grab when I KNOW I’ll need a flashlight. The reason I chose this one over the PD36R (on which I like the charging port and battery indicator better) was the beam. I prefer a tight hot spot with usable spill over a “wall of light” floody beam. For such a small light that can fit in the pocket, this thing really has some incredible throw. Anything within 200 yards will be clearly visible on high or turbo. Where I live, a longer range beam means the difference between seeing an animal’s eyes in our back yard vs seeing whether it’s a skunk or a house cat when stepping outside. This one will be my “main light” for the foreseeable future.

  45. John Petersen (verified owner)

Disclaimer, I’m a bit of a flashlight nerd having tested many lights from various companies over the years.

As far as Fenix lights go, I currently own the Fenix PD35 TK15 UE, and many others. All are great lights and fail to disappoint.

Having recently acquired the TK22 UE I can say without a doubt that this it is my new go-to flashlight and now part of my EDC.

First of all, the beam pattern on the TK22UE is a perfect balance of flood, with fantastic throw (405 meters). The rechargeable 5000U 21700 battery is convenient and provides a 1600 lumen beam for over 2 hours of run time, insane!

The bezel has 3 Tungsten carbide tips for breaking glass in case of an emergency. The light fits in my pockets with no issues.

All in all I’d say Fenix knocked it out of the park with this new light. It’s portable, powerful, priced right, and offers long run times. What’s not to like?
Would I recommend this light to my family and friends, without hesitation absolutely!

  49. Mark Hodges (verified owner)

Extremely bright light functions very well, built as well as my 2 other Fenix lights, very pleased

  50. Robert Vanderford (verified owner)

So far so good. I inspect homes, and this flashlight is great at throwing light in a very tight beam for a long distance. I also have a TK47, which has an even more concentrated beam, but it is longer and not very convenient in a lot of spaces I find myself in. The TK22 is great for those enclosed spaces. Very satisfied so far and, frankly, don’t expect anything but that.

  51. Craig (verified owner)

I have 3 other Fenix flashlights which produce 1000 lumens. The new flashlight is even more incredible.

  52. Justin M. (verified owner)

    Excellent Light.

  53. leonard m. (verified owner)

This is my go to light.

  54. Kelly T. (verified owner)

Once again Fenix did not disappoint. In fact they over delivered as they always do. I have so many Fenix lights because they are so well made and their customer service is fantastic.

  57. Chad H. (verified owner)

Absolutely love it! This flashlight is awesome. Perfect size, perfect brightness, and perfect beam pattern. Comes with a very nice holster also, but fits nicely in pocket as well. Got to love the glass breaking bezel feature also. Very nice Fenix. Thank you!

Great light, little bigger than I expected. But, great Fenix quality

  59. Craig F. (verified owner)

Powerful light with a usb-c type charger built in to the battery and a glass breaker on the bezel. Typical great service from Fenix. I own several lights from Fenix and all are high quality and very dependable. I am extremely happy with my purchase.
