Warning: Do not mix batteries of different brands, sizes, capacities or types. Doing so may cause damage to the headlamp or the batteries being used.

*18650 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Only use quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion; but cell damage or short circuiting are potential risks the user assumes.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the cap to insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the inside, then screw the cap back on.

Charging

  1. Connect the USB port of the charging cable to the power source, then hold the magnetic end of the charging cable close to the charging port of the headlamp. The charging cable will attach to the charging port automatically and charging will begin.
  2. The indicator will display red while charging and will turn green when fully charged.
  3. When charging, the Eco, Low, Med of white light mode, and all red light modes can be used, but charging time will be prolonged。
  4. The normal charging time of the Fenix ARB-L18-3400 battery is 4 hours from depletion to full charging.

Note:

  1. The headlamp has a charging protection function. It will automatically end charging and indicating when the detected temperature is higher than 65°C.
  2. Recharge a stored headlamp every four months to maintain optimal battery performance.

Battery Level Indication

With the lamp switched off, single click the switch to check the battery status, the indicator will last for 3 seconds.

Green light on: saturated 100% - 85%

Green light flashes: sufficient 85% - 50%

Red light on: poor 50% - 25%

Red light flashes: critical 25% - 1%

Note: This only works with Fenix ARB-L18 Series battery.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this happens in Low output mode, the lamp blinks 3 times every 10 minutes to remind you to timely recharge or replace the battery.

Note: This only works with Fenix ARB-L18 Series battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The lamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used on High or Turbo modes for extended periods. When the lamp reaches a temperature of 65°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 65°C, it will then allow the user the reselection of High or Turbo modes.

Headband Assembly

  • The headband is factory assembled by default.
  • Adjust the headband by sliding the buckle to the required length.
  • Assemble the top headband to better fix the headlamp. First fix the headband mount to the headband, then fix one side of the top headband to the headlamp holder, and the other end to the top headband mount.

Other Uses

  • Flashlight: Detach the lamp from the holder, it can be used as a flashlight.
  • Chest light/Work light: With the detachable body clip, it can be used as a chest/work light.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lamp and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality Fenix 18650 battery.
  • If the lamp will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the lamp could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.
  • Lock the lamp or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace the battery (Ensure the battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The contact point or contact of the battery or headlamp is dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

Warning

  • Do place this headlamp out of the reach of children!
  • Do NOT shine the headlamp directly into the eyes of anyone!
  • Do NOT shine flammable objects at close range, to avoid burning objects or causing danger due to high temperature!
  • Do NOT use the headlamp in inappropriate ways such as biting in the mouth, to avoid personal injury or life threats when the headlamp or internal battery fails!
  • This headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat while working, resulting in a high temperature of the headlamp shell. Pay attention to safe use to avoid scalding.
  • Turn off and lock the headlamp or remove the battery from the headlamp to prevent accidental activation when the headlamp is placed in a closed and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks!
  • The LED of this headlamp is not replaceable; so the whole headlamp should be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its life.

Q1. What kind of LEDs are used in HM61R V2.0? Does Fenix offer to replace LED?
A: A Luminus SST40 white light LED and a 2835 red light LED; with a lifespan of 50000hours;

Fenix does not provide LED replacement services for the time being, and users are not recommended to replace the LEDs independently, which may affect product performance and cause product damage.

Q2. What is the color temperature of HM61R V2.0?
A: The color temperature of white light is around 6500K.

Q3. What is the working voltage of HM61R V2.0?
A: 3.7V.

Q4. Is HM61R V2.0 rechargeable? How long is the charging time?
A: HM61R V2.0 is rechargeable. The charging time is about 4 hours. (The indicator on the battery case will display red while charging, and will turn green when fully charged.)
Note: This only works for Fenix ARB-L18 series rechargeable battery.

Q5. Can I use the magnetic charging cable of HM61R to charge the HM61R V2.0?
A: No. The magnetic charging cables of these two headlamps are not compatible with each other.

Q6. How to prevent accidental activation of the HM61R V2.0?
A: Lock: when the lamp is switched off, press and hold the switch for 3 seconds, the lamp will blink 4 times on Low output of red light to indicate locked status.
Unlock: when the lamp is locked, press and hold the switch for 3 seconds, the lamp will be activated with 4 one-second Low output of red light blinks and activated on Low output of red light mode.
In locked status, clicking the switch will activate 4 one-second blinks on Low output of red light to indicate locked status.

Q7. Why does the HM61R V2.0 downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?
A: There are two reasons:
1. Intelligent Overheat Protection
The lamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at relatively high output levels for extended periods. When the lamp reaches a temperature of 65°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 65°C, it will then allow the user for the reselection of the modes.
2. Low-voltage Warning
When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this happens in Low output mode, the battery level indicator blinks to remind you to timely recharge or replace the battery.

Q8. Why does the HM61R V2.0 happen to flicker?
A: The reasons that may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:
1: Low battery.
Solution: Recharge or replace the battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
2: The contact point or contact of the battery or headlamp is dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

Q9. What kind of battery can be used in HM61R V2.0?
A: Fenix ARB-L18 series rechargeable Li-ion battery is recommended. Also compatible with 2 × CR123A batteries. Other rechargeable Li-ion batteries are not recommended. As Turbo output fail to light up due to current and voltage limitation, an unmatched battery may cause the light to fail to work normally.

Q10. Is the magnetic charging port waterproof?
A: Yes.

Q11. Can I use any magnetic charging cable?
A: No. You must use the cable that is included with purchase. The magnetic cable that came with the original HM61R is not compatible.

Q12.  What should I do if the HM61R V2.0 needs repair?

A: 1. 15-day replacement: Fenix will replace identical or equal products with documented manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase.

2. 2-year free repair: Fenix will repair a light free of charge within 2 years of purchase if problems develop with normal use.

3. Lifetime maintenance: If repair is required after 2 years from the date of purchase, Fenix will charge for parts. The total repair fee is dictated by the cost of the replaced materials.

Repeat buyer

Originally thought it was too expensive. However, after my first purchase of this flashlight over 2 years ago, I just purchased a second one for my wife (see reason below). I have nothing to gain by saying “the greatest flashlight I’ve ever owned”. Compact, (fits comfortably in front pocket with clip) unbelievable quality, (I’ve dropped it several times) headband easily adjusted and very comfortable, several brightness settings, (from dim to so bright that it could blind an attacker) and then best of all, the battery lasts for days.

Must-have headlamp

We raise sheep, and during lambing it is a 24 hour operation. I don’t think most people understand how much BETTER a headlamp is than a handheld light when you are actually working and using both hands. I received one as a gift from my son, and it worked so well, I bought a second one for my wife.

The 18650 battery gives long life and is easy to recharge, especially with the magnetic charger that eliminates to need to remove the battery to charge it. No more buying and throwing away CR123 batteries.

The multiple power settings are perfect for low level lighting up close, and powerful lighting for searching across pastures.

Then head band works with or without a hat.

If my wife likes something, it must be good. And she loves her Fenix headlamp. I told her to keep it in the door of her SUV so she could always have it with her and easily find it.

This light, along with my pocket knife, are my useful tools that I use daily.

Nothing works, not even customer support

They sent me a headlamp that failed to deliver in any way - didn't work when not plugged in, only has three light modes, no functioning battery indicator.

Customer service has been difficult to get ahold of and slow to respond, meanwhile the very short 15 day window to return this $90 paperweight is ticking down.

Don't make the mistakes I did.

Hi Ellen - I'm unsure as to why it has been difficult to get ahold of our customer service. I'm not sure what number you were calling from, but we don't see any incoming calls from the number on your order in our phone records. We do see you submitted a warranty form yesterday and they are going through those today (we only have one person in warranty/repairs today answering all questions). We do try to respond to people within 24 hours. You should be getting an email on that soon. I also note from your order that you ordered an extra magnetic charging cord, however, it is not the correct cord for this light. Warranty can get you set up on a return for that cord too if you were wanting to the one that does with this light.

Last headlamp you’ll ever need.

Great for hunting, red light great for low visibility. Awesome that it can disconnect and be a stand alone light! Highly recommend it! 4th Fenix light I have and will only buy from this company when I need to trust my gear.

Initial impressions.

This is possibly the best EDC light combo going right now. You get a super capable headlamp package that doubles as an excellent pocket light with an imminently practical feature set, plus it comes with a nice battery.

I've been carrying a different brand TIR style light for my "work" light till now. This one immediately replaced it on the pocket front due to the 90 degree head, rubber free charging port and magnetic base. TIR lenses are the best beam for working lights I think, and this one is very nice and smooth with the light distribution.

The head strap is icing on the work light cake tho. The arrangement of the clip plate and the 90 degree light makes for a lightweight and universally adjustable hands free solution. No more taping up your lights to hold them in your mouth comfortably! Yay! (Don't act like you haven't done that. It's bad for your teeth, stop it.)
The headband itself adjusts significantly to go on a helmet or your kids' head, seems durable as well. Has rubber grippy areas and reflective stuff is very bright.

I can't think of any way to improve this light except to include a charge cable with both polarities of connectors so they work with the older stuff too. I carry my RC series of lights all the time and when I saw these charge port was the other polarity it did make me a little sad. I like this new cable design better than the old one tho.

Fenix's online order and delivery of my new lights was near instant and flawless, nice bonus.

Yeah, we aren't sure why the manufacturer reversed the polarity on the new magnetic ports to be honest.
