Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Lock the light or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation. Recharge a stored battery every four months to maintain optimal battery performance.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Warning
This flashlight is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the flashlight directly into anyone’s eyes.

Great light!!!! Works as described. Not a problem with it yet. Bright as hell for 1600 lumens. The negative reviews about the E30R are the same with any product. Y’all need to read the specifics and technical details and instructions before y’all buy! Research the product watch videos on YouTube. No product is is perfect from defects and quality control. Also, if you find a product not working as advertised, don’t be nasty about, just return the defective item. Most companies will work with ya. Y’all have a great day! Did I mention that I love this light?

If you’re in a hurry skip to the bottom where I do pros and cons.
I recently purchased Fenix’s new E30R flashlight. I was looking for a new EDC light and the thing that drew me to the E30R was the advertised turbo mode output of 1600 lumens. This was going to be a major upgrade from my other 2 EDC lights; the Streamlight pro tac 2xl which has 500 lumens and the original LED Lenser P5R which has 200 lumens. Upon receiving the flashlight (shipping was flawless from Fenix) I checked it over, became familiar with the various functions and then charged it fully. When night came I took the light out and began testing. I really like the different modes including the lowest brightness level which is great if you need to shed just a little light on whatever you’re doing. It is extremely bright on turbo mode but I am skeptical of the 1600 lumen output claim. I tested it against my Streamlight and LED Lenser. While it was a lot brighter than both, I did not perceive it to be over 3 times brighter than the 500 lumen Streamlight. The other issue is throw which is the main issue for me. The led is very close to the lense and therefore can really light up a fairly large area but my 200 lumen Lenser with it’s patented AFS system threw farther than the Fenix which is supposed to be 8 times brighter. So, moral of the story is the E30R will not be going into my EDC rotation. I gave the light to my wife as her main edc light.

Pros: I like the battery level indicator on the switch and I like the charging system. I also like that it can use CR123, CR123R and 18650 batteries, (choices and flexibility are a huge plus). I like the size of the light, it fits easily clipped in a pocket, on a belt on in a purse. I like the fact that you can lock it so it doesn’t accidentally turn on in a pocket.

Cons: Again, I am skeptical of the 1600 lumen output (caveat…I do not have an actual output measuring device). Even if it is 1600 lumens the fact there is no reflector to speak of and that the led sits just behind the lense makes its performance subpar in my opinion. Both my Streamlight and LED Lenser have farther throw. It doesn’t have the ability to be programmed to always come on at a certain light level, you have to cycle through the brightness levels each time. I won’t knock it for no momentary on as this is not a tactical light but Be Aware this is not a tactical light. Fenix does make ta tidal lights with a tail switch and has momentary on. I may try one of those but haven’t decided yet. Hope this helps. Sorry Fenix, not the homerun I was hoping for.

Really awsome light! Love the size, and how it can clip on my hat. 2 suggested improvements would be a magnet on the back, and a good belt case for it. Accidenty discovered that the leatherman wave case works great!

Unbelievable lumen power for such a compact flashlight. As with all Fenix products, the design and workmanship are top notch. The flashlight does not come with a case like the UC35-R did when I purchased that flashlight last November (a case would be a nice upgrade!) and the lens part of the flashlight gets hot while in turbo mode, but that was disclosed in the materials I read prior to purchasing the E30R. You won’t go wrong purchasing this flashlight to add to your collection, give to a loved one or give as a gift. This is a wonderful product!!

Most people who buy high quality high performance led flashlight’s…have alot of unrealistic expectations. Every led flashlight has the potential of being fallible. I have had surefire led flashlight’s that failed me OLIGHT lights thrunite’s. Point is these companies are trying out what works best for you. Trying to meet the heavy demands of people like us who want a powerful and flawless led flashlight. Are they powerful? Of course they are! Are they sculpted handsomely? Of course they are! But do they hold up to scrutiny? Well…that’s entirely on the user. One complaint said the switch is hard to find. I just place the pocket clip on the right side of the switch. Problem solved! Another complaint said it gets to hot. Well…it’s going to. 1600 lumens create alot of heat in a very short time. I only have turbo on for 30 seconds to a minute. People are under the impression that the turbo will stay on for the whole 1hr and 27 minutes STRAIGHT. No, cause due to damaging the light and components, the light will step down to a lower lumen by the electronic protection system built-in to the light. I hope some of you will find this helpful. Also, I don’t due the drop impact test or submerge test to 6ft.

It doesn’t always turn ON when you need it, it will randomly refuse to come out of LOCKED mode, requiring you to completely unscrew the head from the battery case. Their is a major design or manufacturing flaw in theses first run lights. Better Wait a few months for Fenix to fix it. Also it uses an inferior LED from past Cree equipped models, so the beam is a visually poorer yellowish tint. My faith in Fenix is weakening. I cannot recommend the E30R until it has been thoroughly debugged. ECO (Engineering Change Order) time, Fenix. And please return to using Cree LEDs, your customers a worth it.

The issue with turning on and Lock mode isn’t normal – I’ve asked warranty to contact you to help with that.

Love the light. Perfect size for everyday carry. Plenty of battery power and light.
A couple of quibbles. The proprietary recharging port is in the same shape as the on/off switch. So you often press the recharge port instead of the on/off button. Also, why a proprietary design? How many charge cables do you want to travel with? Proprietary designs should be banned. The solution to both of these problems on an update would be to switch to USB-C recharging like the PD36R.
Also, on my light sometimes it doesn’t want to turn on, even with a charged battery. I’ve found if I unscrew the head a little and re tighten, it will then turn on. Not a big deal, but worth noting.

Sounds like a battery issue with that light. I will have warranty contact you. One quick way to identify the on/off switch would be to move the belt clip so that it’s closer to the on/off switch.

Love Fenix lights but hate this one. Thought I was ordering one with a tail switch. I didn’t read the details good enough so that’s on me. Can’t stand the side button because it takes me 3/4 tries minimum to get the light to turn on. I hate it honestly. Wish I would’ve bought the PD25 since I carried the PD22 for years before losing it. I was just wanting the magnetic charger system so I went this route instead.

I prefer the tail switch as it is easier to find. Also wish the light could turn on directly at full power (1600 lumen) as opposed to having to click through the different levels. Since I bough this I was told this is more of a flood light and therefore appears to be less bright than my PD35 (1000 lumen) light.

This flashlight is a beast. I was using the tk20 but this powerhouse has become my new favorite tool at work. I’ve been using this for a little over 2 weeks now and it never let’s me down weather I’m cleaning in -40°F with a pressure washer or doing a final inspection on the food equipment my crew has cleaned this thing just keeps going and then some. I’ve recommended it to all my staff. I will definitely be buying some more.

This is my 9th Fenix flashlight, every one of which works as well as new. I wanted this for EDC, and the only reason its not 5 stars is the lack of a holster. I’ve had it pulled out of the clip a couple times in less than a day, even though the clip is quite beefy, so I won’t carry it on my belt. I’m reluctant to carry a light in my pocket for fear of the glass becoming scratched/scuffed over time. Other than that it performs the way I’ve come to expect from Fenix.

The flashlight is an excellent pocket size light which Is perfect for what I use it for. However, I am disappointed in the fact does it does not have the memory of the last lighting level used which for me is the medium lighting level. Also, I am not a fan of the push button on / off feature requiring 2 quick presses / clicks in order to turn the light on. If the timing during the two clicks is not just perfect, the light will flash 2 or 3 times and turn off. I find this very frustrating as I have the PD 25 which turns on and off by way of the button at the bottom of the light (instant on/off) first click every time and adjusts the lighting level by way of the button at the side of the light. If this light had those features if the PD25, it would rate 5 stars!!

This light is carried on a daily basis for on and off duty. I like the light starting in the lowest setting every time. It is consistent and reliable. I don’t use this light for tactical purposes, but the strobe feature would easily disorient a bad guy without question. my only feedback is, be prepared for the light to get hot in your hands, primarily in the two highest settings.

I didn’t realize it was 1600 lumens only for 30-90 seconds then downshifts to 900 lumens. I thought it was 1600 flat so while I was a little disappointed in that, the flashlight is amazing. Incredibly bright for its size!

Really nice light. I particularly like that whenever it’s turned on it’s at the lowest power, even if it was on high when turned off. I would personally prefer a somewhat more focused spot. However, this isn’t a tactical light so I understand why it throws a larger spot for most general needs. I’ve got a Fenix tactical light and its perfect for that use. With their outstanding line up of products, there’s a light to meet any and all needs.

Good light. Good weight to it and I like the features. Couple things though. The clip should be facing the opposite direction. The glass faces up when you have it clipped on your pocket. That’s dumb. Also it has multiple brightness levels which are great to have. Thing is it doesnt have memory on it. So you have to hold down the button, then click it a couple times to get to a good brightness. It also takes about 1 full second of holding it down to turn on the light. Yea, sounds like that’s not a lot of time, but it feels like forever when you’re trying to just click it to turn on the light. Then you have to click it two or three more times if you want it to be bright. I do like that it runs an 18650 battery, however, I have tried to use my Samsung and lg 18650 batteries on it and they do not work. And I charge them in a four bay fenix charger. I guess theres some small difference in them or something. Sucks because that’s why I bought this light. Overall it’s a good light. Could they change a few things to make it better? Absolutely.

By far the most compact light for the lumens I have ever seen. I carry it every day now. It feels very well built and hasn’t given me any trouble. The only thing I would change is the mode controls, as they’re a bit finicky. The lock/unlock double click feature is pretty picky about your button press timing. Besides that, I can’t complain, and I don’t believe that’s enough of a downfall to take a star away. Anything close to this would cost double the price.

Suddenly I found myself looking for a new light, my previous EDC work light was borrowed from my desk at work and not returned. When searching I found this light had just recently released. It is not only much smaller but also brighter and cheaper than my previous too. I am impressed with this light, and wouldn’t go back to my previous even if it suddenly arrives back from its borrowed state. Some of my favorite attributes on this model include that it allows the rechargeable battery to be charged without being removed from the light. It omits the tail switch making the it significantly shorter and easier to carry. And finally it has a hat friendly clip making it a head lamp if needed.

The E30R is an EIGHTY DOLLAR flashlight. For that much money it SHOULD have a nice white LED emitter in it. But no. It came with what may be the WORST, the most FUGLY, the most DISGUSTING GREEN LED emitter I’ve seen in 18+ YEARS of buying LED flashlights. I call this particularly wrenched and revolting shade of green ‘puked up split pea soup’. The only other time I have seen such a truly horrible shade of green coming from a ‘white LED’ flashlight was from the Fenix LD12 ‘2017 version’ flashlight. Over a 2 year period, I bought FOUR of these terrible flashlights, at $50/EA, trying to get ONE with a HALFWAY decent ‘white LED’ emitter. They were ALL terrible. Unusable. $200, right down the toilet. Perhaps, in THREE YEARS, you MIGHT be able to buy an $80 Fenix E30R with a decent white LED emitter in it. But I sure wouldn’t bet $80 on it.

Overall another great flashlight from Fenix. I have put it to some pretty good use so far! This light has had no issues in the pouring rain and every day use and abuse. Only two things I would have preferred is a tail cap on/off (solely because I prefer it… my edc is a pd35 tac. Love it!). Secondly, I would have liked to seen the light barrel just a little longer or a shorter pocket clip because I find it a bit challenging to clip it to the back pocket with how they are in relation to each other. Outside of those personal preferences I think it’s a great light! Brighter than hell and battery life has been great so far! PD35 Tac is still my favorite carry light (amd probably always will be…) but this guy will make a wonderful addition to the family!

This little light is amazing. Super bright and battery life is amazing. I use it for walking my dog and it totally lights up my dark street. I am buying a second one to keep in my girlfriends car.

This thing is absolutely ridiculous. It has replaced my pd35 as all-time favorite EDC. Way brighter than will ever be necessary, very nice spill pattern, extremely lightweight and compact. The button practically lines itself up with my thumb as it is drawn from a pocket. I’ll never go back to a “tacticool” tailswitch. Keep it up fenix, this one is a winner.

I have several Fenix products, I have had good luck with them all as well as their customer service. This light is no different, it’s powerful, easy to charge and feels solid. My only knock is that it can’t be programmed to a fixed beam, say the most powerful setting as soon as you turn it on. Otherwise a cool light.

I hate the new proprietary charging interface . It really limits the flexibility to charge the light. If I had know that It was proprietary I would not have bought the light.

Bought a new E30R directly from Fenix, initial impressions were good. Less than a week after purchase it has failed completely. I validated it was not a battery issue, light fails to power on. Now I get to pay $10 to ship it back to Fenix so I can get a refund, awesome!

Justin – they should have emailed you a return shipping label. We don’t have our customers pay to return lights to us when they have contacted warranty. Warranty should be reaching out to you to make sure you received the return label.

Love my new flashlight, lots of power in a small package. The improved belt clip in this model stays clipped to your belt and doesn’t fall off like the ones in previous models. The lock feature is great for preventing it from accidentally being turned on when clipped to your belt. The magnetic charger is a great new feature, probably it is going to hold up over time better than the micro usb charger in my older fenix uc35.

great light, very bright, similar to car headlights when on brightest setting. the negatives are- the charge port is similar to the “on” button which is hard to find by feel. also the on button requires multiple trys to turn the flashlight on if it is in locked setting. same issue as with the E18R. lastly it does not have a magnetic base.
it needs these improvement to be perfect. let me know when these are added and i will trade mine in on version 2!!

Fenix does it again always setting the bar Higher for all other Tactical Light Companies, Quality, Design and Durability the E30r has it all. It’s another Reason why I am proud to be an Ambassador.

It’s a nice build, but I was mislead by the 1600 lumen rating they state is good for 1 hour and 27 minutes. Once you dig into the literature, it’s 1600 lumens for 90-seconds which then downshifts to 900 lumens, I find that it downshifts even further after about 45 minutes. I can understand why they have it downshift as it almost gets too hot to hold on turbo mode in that 90 seconds. It is a pretty diffuse beam that is a little yellower than hoped so the lower lumen settings do seem dim to me. Was hoping to have this little light replace my fenix TK-41, but it probably wont.

Hi John – the chart does state that the 1 hour 27 minute run time on Turbo is the cumulative run time, due to the intelligent downshift to protect the light from heat.

I missed the fact that this light doesn’t have memory. When you turn it on you have to cycle through lower output modes to reach turbo every time, which makes it not suited for tactical or first responder carry. Apart from that the light is what I’ve become used to from Fenix: high quality materials and finish, brilliant light output, and a very easy to use magnetic charge cord. It will make a great utility/search light to my growing collection of Fenix flashlights, but will not be carried for duty.

    Fenix Team First Review:
Our evaluation of this unit is that it is a wonderful compliment to the line.

-Large as most of us would allow an EDC to be, but really comfortable in the pocket. Most of us carry a PD25 right now (some E18R), and felt this was even more comfortable to carry.

-Easy operation with simple hold. We also always want to call out that this does NOT have a rear switch. Another point on the operation is that their is NO mode memory on this light. The light will cycle through from eco, low, mid, high, turbo setting each time beginning with eco. So not good for tactical use where they generally want a “no questions high” when they turn on.

-Turbo setting does a great job of producing a clean powerful beam. Lights up a nice area of light. Wouldn’t call it a thrower because the beam is more balanced, but it holds it’s own against the PD35 and UC35 from our line of products. It’s also important to point out that the turbo performs at the 1600 lumens for a limited time before kicking down to 900 lumens. When you aren’t just staring at the wall (you know who you are) with the light you can barely tell the transition. Still plenty of light to allow this compact model to impress.

-Body design is very sharp looking with a real comfort in your hand. We all loved the feel in our hands and thought it was our most comfortable to hold flashlight. The size is just ideal.

-Clip is handy and allows for a deep pocket fit. We all can nick pick at what is our favorite clip style and how the light should be positioned, but we all thought it was nice and compliments the EDC nature of the light.

-Heat…Important to call out with any of these extreme compact and extremely bright lights that heat will build up in the small structure. It’s why the light has to be designed with the kick down mechanisms at around 90 seconds and then the heat sensors built in to drop further depending on temperature. We felt this light on Turbo was warm at 2 min and hot at the 4 minute mark. You can still hold the light so it’s not like it’s burning you, but you will notice the warmth in the body and the hot on the head of the flashlight. We also felt the clip got hotter than the body after the 3 minute mark. Heat in the head must resonate down the clip over time. Our test were mostly done in the warehouse with avg temperature. The limited test outside with more air flow allowed the temperature of the light to be way less. Bottomline, don’t let this stop you from buying, but be aware it will get hot if you use this on the highest level for extended periods of time (much like the PD35 and UC35). Our thought is the high and turbo is not generally used for longer times anyway, so it was a moot point for us.

Bottomline- We all loved this light. We all liked the E18R when it launched and think that this is a E18R on steroids without being too much bigger. Buy this because it’s operation and size are ideal for a general use carry. There are other lights from us to buy for tactical applications. This one is not the best fit for that. It’s for the person who won’t leave the house without their knife and flashlight and prefer to have them in their pocket (WE ARE ALL GUILTY HERE).
