Low-Voltage Warning
Replace the battery as soon as possible if High cannot be selected. This means the battery power is running out.
Intelligent Memory Circuit
The lantern memorizes the last selected brightness level on White light mode. When turned on again the previously used brightness level will be recalled.
Usage and Maintenance
- Replace the battery as soon as possible if High cannot be selected.
- Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lantern and will void the warranty.
- Fenix recommends using excellent quality batteries.
- If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries or the lantern could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
- Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
- Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance, as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.
If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Very bright. Appears rugged. Love the bottom light system. Works great for tent and under hood lighting when hung.

Bought lamps for power outages. Have not used yet but I am sure they will perform when called upon. I really like Fenix.

This is like a light in your kitchen and can illuminate a large area!

I purchase 3 of these intending to use them with rechargeable batteries.
None of the 6 different brands of rechargeable batteries I tried will fit in these lights.
I expected so much better from Fenix.

Please note that the CL23 lantern uses alkaline AA batteries, which are included with the lantern.

Love the small size. I wish there was a way to direct the light (either toward something, or away from something/your eyes).

This is must have lantern, quality built, plus it can use 1,2 or 3 AA. Battery, the reason why its must have it because AA battery are common, you can buy them in all country. Plus if power ever goes out? Most of your tv remote are powered by AA..

LOTS OF LIGHT IN A SMALL PACKAGE

The O-ring is too fragile; it’s already broken. Otherwise I’d give it a 5. Not a huge deal for me; just wanted to let you know. I’m a big Fenix fan.

How adorable is this little lantern? Puts out great light for a AA-powered light and is certainly easy to transport.

This is a very calming lamp that you can have on in your tent or van without it hurting your eyes from being too bright. The light is well diffused through the durable outer plastic cover, giving nice, soft lighting. It also has a light on the bottom for when you hang it from hooks above you. It’s small, lightweight, and bright.

I got this lantern as a backup to use alkaline batteries for when all my 18650s are dead and unable to power my other Fenix lanterns from extended power outages.
The lantern is a little smaller than I thought it would be which is great. It is significantly heavier than I thought it would be, but not so heavy that it would significantly weigh down a backpack. it feels incredibly well built.
I am like that the batteries run in parallel a lot, maximizing capacity and giving versatility to use fewer batteries.
The brightness modes are very well spaced out and thoughtfully chosen to maximize both usability and runtime.
In the image I have several Fenix lanterns set to Max brightness for comparison.
From left to right cl09, cl25r, cl23 (this lantern), cl30.

Surprisingly Bright. Easy to use functions. Well constructed.

The CL23 uses AA batteries so we can battery share with E12 flashlights. This makes for an excellent lighting system. The feature list for the CL23 is spot on and the build quality is excellent value for the price. Compact, good quality, good feature set…this lantern is a winner.

Still testing this lantern, but it is bright and well made.

Good light! A lot of settings for any type of situation you might need. Bright light for when you’re walking to the restroom at night, dim soft light for when you need to find something in your tent but you don’t want to disturb someone that may be sleeping. I didn’t need this light at all. Just an impulse buy, but I’m have with my purchase. If something happened to this light I would order it again.
