Great flashlight, useless pocket clip.

I'm glad I bought the Fenix E12 v2.0. It's a simple, dependable, pocket-sized light with no strobe, SOS, or memory function. It powers on with a single click of the end cap button, and defaults to the 5-lumen setting on every startup. A light half-press on the end cap button advances from 5 lumens to 30 lumens, then to the max 160 lumens. The reflector collimates the beam to produce a bright center spot that does a remarkable job illuminating at a distance outdoors at night. I was shocked at how much illumination is produced by this light even at 5 lumens (where I use it most often).

Now the not-so-good: the so-called "pocket clip" is absolutely useless. The rounded tip that first meets your pocket actually forces the pants pocket seam over the outside of the clip, dropping the flashlight entirely into the pocket. Anyone able to get the clip over their pocket seam will immediately encounter the second roadblock - a small tab jutting out from the rounded attachment arms of the clip, that snag your pocket seam and prevent the flashlight from going fully into your pocket. I threw the pocket clip away. Useless! Plan to use the included lanyard and loop it through a belt loop.

Color spectrum of the LED has a yellow-green bias. Not a dealbreaker for me by any means, but worth noting for those of you spoiled by Nichia's 219 and 519 series emitters.

Great small light

Bought 3 of these to keep around the house in handy places for use. Only complaint is I prefer a “ smart” light that will return to the setting it was on when last used. Very sturdy for this small a light plus the handiness of using “AA” batteries which are easily available

Fenix E12 V2.0

I wanted a flashlight that used only one AA battery. While searching on the internet I came across Fenixlighting.com. In their search bar, I typed: EDC AA Flashlight. Fenix E12 V2.0 came up. I asked, “Do they. have others?” I clicked Flashlights, Every Day Carry, Filter, and Battery Type AA, respectively. Four flashlights appeared. Two required two AA batteries. One required a rechargeable or one AA battery. The other was E12 V2.0. I ordered the latter.

It arrived in a 6” x 8” bubble envelope in four days. It was packaged good. It came as stated on their website.

The E12 V2.0 is an extremely light compact flashlight that uses only one AA battery or one Ni-mAh battery. It has three modes, which in lumens are 5, 30, and 160. (See Fenixlighting.com for more specs.)

In my hand, it feels a little small (approximately 3”) and very light. I use my right index finger to push the switch at its end to turn it on. The low mode comes on. One tap of the switch yields the medium mode. Another tap of the switch yields the high mode. Another tap returns to the low mode. Push the tail switch. It turns off. (When turned on it is always in low mode, and it always cycles as above.)

The light from the E12 V2.0 is nice and uniform. At 5 lumens, in the dark, it provides a very nice uniform distribution of light on objects. These include cats eating outside (It doesn’t hurt their eyes), flowers and leaves outside, stuffed animals inside (no other lights), a fly at the bottoms a plastic bag (I let fly outside.), inside an otherwise dark car, hang it from the rear-view mirror for reading, and equivalent. On brown carpet inside a house, in the dark, it is not very good. You have to get close. Suppose you are in a dark room. You need to read the print on a piece of paper on your desk. From a short distance, the Fenix E12 V2.0 will provide a nice unifrorm soft distribution of light for reading. This is not the case with many other flashlights, which leave a bright spot on the paper. The “higher” flashlights provide to much intensity at 5 lumens for a nice view of an object. The above is my favorite aspect of the E12 V2.0.

This leads me to the medium mode of 30 lumens. At the original distance above to read the paper, a bright spot will appear on the paper. However, move the flashlight back a little. The paper is cover with a nice uniform light without a bright spot. This mode is very nice to walk in the dark, inside a house, walk on a sidewalk, or needing more light to see details of objects.

Now, the hight mode of 160 lumens is sufficient for lighting an area a distance of thirty feet. At approximately sixty feet, it lights the area. But you will not “see” that small screw on top of the table. For more details, move closer in the area. It will not “light up” a country side from a long distance.

The E12 V2.0 is a very basic, simple, compact, and light EDC flashlight at a reasonable price of $29.95. One that provides uniform distribution of light. It requires only one AA battery. (These are easy to carry or purchase.) Amazingly, I don’t “see” a person of a reasonable age that cannot operate it.

Well, it takes several people to make and market a flashlight. The E12 V2.0 is not an exception. Fenix did a quality job in making and distributing it. This includes their customer service. I’ve had very few clichés. But Fenix responed quickly. I asked many questions. Fenix answered them in a very short time.
And I like their discounts too. Overall, I appreciate the time and effort that Fenix provided me. They will do the same for you. I can’t give them a five-star rating because it would not be appropriate. However, a seven-star rating is correct! In otherwods, if I had seven thumbs, they would all be pointing up! How is that?

Give the Fenix E12 V2.0 a try. You won’t forget it. In fact, you’ll take it every where you go.

Goes with me everywhere

I carry three things in my pockets at all times and have for years. A handkerchief, a Swiss Army knife and the E12 flashlight. Hardly a day goes by that I don't use it for something. I recently thought I'd lost it and immediately ought another . Found it and now I have a spare. Should have had one al along.
The E12 works well. It's tough, the battery lasts a very long time and I really like the three levels of brightness.
