Still compact in size, the upgraded Fenix LD22 Flashlight offers new operational features and a higher output of 300 lumens while still using only two AA batteries. Four brightness levels plus Strobe and SOS will meet lighting demands for daily use as well as tactical applications. In Outdoor Mode, the LD22 Flashlight’s side switch controls all output modes and the tail switch simply turns the light on and off. The new Tactical Mode turns off the side switch and activates the turbo, strobe and mid modes through the tactical tail switch.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix strongly recommends using high-performance Ni-MH rechargeable batteries to get most out of this flashlight. Alkaline batteries will reduce the runtime significantly.
  • Fenix recommends using excellent quality battery. If the flashlight will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the flashlight could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Unscrew the tail cap one-half turn or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transport.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the light’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the flashlight flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
Reason A: The batteries need replacing.
Solution: Replace batteries (Please confirm the correct installation of anode and cathode).
Reason B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please refer to the warranty policy before contacting your authorized distributor.

Notice: The routine cleaning video can be watched and downloaded through Fenix Official Website, please log onto the service channel->“maintenance for light”

The flashlight is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the light directly into anyone’s eyes.

I chose the LD22 firstly because of the dual modes. It’s mode select function is the same as the TOP SELLING Fenix PD35-Tac. The versatility in modes allow the LD22 to be an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor use. I have used it indoors late at night to get from room to room with disturbing anyone. The metal side switch is whisper quiet when adjusting brightness levels. When used as a walk light when I go out at night; it had enough throw to allow me to see into my surroundings. To have 300 lumens coming from 2 AA batteries in such a lightweight flashlight is a big plus. Anyone in the market for a small footprint, lightweight flashlight for indoor (nearfield) or outdoor use should consider the Fenix LD22. Hats off to Fenix for putting out this top-shelf light !

This is the best flashlight I’ve ever owned. I’ve only had Maglite’s in the past and this little light is fantastic. It’s bright, feels well built, and I like the tailswitch/side switch combination.

I just received and tested my new LD22 flashlight, it was just what I was looking for. I would purchase this flashlight again and will recommend it to my friends. Good Job Fenix!!!

For technical work and aircraft inspections nothing better, best light I have used

  5. Anonymous (verified owner)

This flashlight replaced my streamlight that I used for a few years. The Fenix is a superior light!

    big fan

  7. Scott L. (verified owner)

I’ve carried one of these lights provided by my work for over two years. It had been exposed to high heat several times, washed in the washing machine twice and the dryer once for a while. Worked up till the day I lost it at another job that I went to. This light is it’s replacement and I wanted this light because of the dependability of the original. This one came out of my pocket. Bought it from Fenix to assure I got the real thing due to the fakes that are for sale out there. I’m a tight wad with money, but, I also appreciate quality and will pay for a quality product.

Great EDC light. This is actually my 3rd Fenix light, PD 35 (awesome), a LD 22 and another LD22. Being that it uses AA batteries was the deciding factor in both later purchases. High quality, great functionality, great light production. If you need more lumens buy something else and don’t whine. This light works perfect for what it’s said to do. Enjoy.

  9. Don Dyar

I believe this is the best 2 X AA flashlight anywhere. I almost did not buy it because of the extra modes, but I found they are not complicated and very easy to use. The quality of construction, fit and finish makes it feel more like a precision instrument then a regular flash light. I realized that I have struggled with standard flashlights long enough, there is just no comparison.
I came back to the Fenix site to look at the headlamps, went back to the store to get one of those!

  10. Steven (verified owner)

Very bright for an AA battery LED

  11. Gary Altenburger

I have a Fenix E 21, I love it and wanted a second E 21. Unfortunately this model has been discontinued. I found the model that looked closest which is the LD22. I decided to try the LD22 and I’m glad I did. It’s even better than the E 21. I also have a little key chain EO 5. This is my everyday pocket carry. It’s a super handy little light. I was skeptical of the twist on but it works great. If there are better quality flashlights, I haven’t seen them.

  12. Stanley W. (verified owner)

Great powerful light for its size , very pleased

  13. Matthew K

I have had this flashlight for 5 years now. I love it. It survived the oil fields and is now being used by 3 people in a very busy auto repair shop. never had an issue, and if it ever does stop working, I will buy another fenix light.

  14. Brian Aldouri (verified owner)

I purchased in the last month 14 flashlights or maybe more I love all of them they are really cool flashlight

  15. Jon Jonny

    Terrible product, save your money!

    • Dianne

Can you elaborate on what you don’t like about this light?

  16. Charles (verified owner)

Third Fenix light I have purchased. They are great. Like a little spot light and more.

  17. Robert (verified owner)

This is now my go to flashlight. Very bright with AA alkaline batteries. It fits well
in my shirt pocket and it’s not heavy. Thanks Fenix!

  18. Ben Mooring

    Great light!

  19. Steven K. (verified owner)

The LD22 is my favorite AA tactical flashlight. I keep them in the glove compartments of each of our cars, as well as in my bug-out and EDC bags. During a recent trip to Mexico this light proved its worth when we lost power for a couple of days. I never travel anywhere without one of these in my backpack.

  20. Cameron B. (verified owner)

    Great quality

  21. John Price (verified owner)

I work full time in wine production and the LD22 is perfectly suited for my job. I carry it in my pocket throughout the entire work day. I’m constantly moving up and down, in and out of a forklift, climbing ladders, back and forth, wet, tired, but happy…Any ways, I’m also always constantly in need of light, the Fenix provides! I love the feel of the light in my hand, it has great ergonomics for all angles, plus the length allows confidence when spinning the light in your hand to get a better angle/grip. At first I thought the length was going to be a problem while clipped inside my pocket, but it’s just never felt bulky, it seems to just fit and move perfectly with any challenge. I also really like the brightness setting button, both the fact that you get 4 different brightness settings and it doesn’t ever seem to get in the way or pressed accidentally, which was another big concern I had. Even if you did accidentally press the brightness button, the light has such a quick step through on the scale that it takes less than a second to get back to where you were. I would definitely buy this light again if I had to, but with the overall durability experienced with this thing I doubt it will ever fail.
Not to mention, it’s a really great deal! I’ve looked at other competitors prices, and I really feel like Fenix is hooking up the hard working person by providing an extremely quality light for a very fair price. One last thing, I purchased a rechargeable battery set up through panasonic, the package comes with 4 batteries and a charger. Using the series of 2 batteries working, 2 charged and on standby…Limitless use of light…limitless. Great job, Fenix! Thanks for making such a reliable product, I will definitely suggest this to all my other friends!

I’ve had other Fenix products… and have always been happy with them. Purchasing directly from Fenix makes it that much better!

  23. Leon Haskell (verified owner)

Have 2 now, these flashlights are awesome. I use them at work. They are the toughest lights, I have run over them with a truck and still working great.

  24. William W. (verified owner)

A great EDC flashlight with easily available AA batteries. I still have the old model which I have had for years and works well but this one is brighter. Same durable build.

  25. Harold Way (verified owner)

great little light, small an bright an very easy to carry backpacking

  26. Greg C. (verified owner)

Fast service and shipping. I am really enjoying my LD22 as my E.D.C. Got it last month (May). I am using Ni-Mh AA batteries that I plan to recharge each week. Operation and quality seem to be good on my LD22, I carry it in my belt holster. I also own an E12 for backup.

  27. Anonymous (verified owner)

So far so good. Great throw, fit and finish, and functionality. Fit and finish is very good. For a 2xAA tactical flashlight the performance is equal to a 4Sevens w/ the only exception of a strobe as the first click option. The claim of 300 lumens is accurate and distance of illumination is at least the stated distance of 120m. If reliability isn’t an issue over time, this might be the best torch I have owned so far.

  28. Valery

I have two ld 20 last only one year tail switch not working , light bulb not working

  29. Ben Wei

poor flash light,, for this price it gets very hot after turn on for 5 mins…

    • Fenix Lighting U.S.

Ben-Have you contacted the Canadian office with your issue? The light could get warm, but not hot. Should get a look at it.

  30. Guy Wallace

Had mine a couple years and it just great I have rechargeable batterys just a all around great pocket lite

  31. Cody Fairchild

The best flashlight I’ve ever owned. Solid, lightweight, bright, and a well built flashlight. Tactical mode is great for weapon lights because you don’t have to cycle through every mode. I keep mine in “outdoor” mode because i need multiple outputs for my job. I purchased this because of the excellent warranty and the fact that they include a holster, lanyard and extra o-rings. Now, I need another one lol

  32. Countryboytech

    Quality with dependable service

  33. Jacob Loyacano

Great portability. Not heavy. I have not had it ever get too hot on me. I keep it clipped inside my pocket for everyday use. Reliable, flawless light for everyday use.

  34. Bob F.

Compact size, 2 AAs, strong light with options and convenient pocket clip make the LD 22 my choice for deer camp. Can’t beat it in the woods, making my way to the tree stand or blind in the pre dawn darkness. Also keep it next to my bed at home. The LD 22 is a quality flashlight.

Have had the earlier version of this light for years. Use it every day in construction settings and it has performed faithfully for many years. To look at it tells of the abuse that it will endure, has been drop tested, water tested, shock tested, lens does well against weld slag, and it fits well in your pocket. Buying a new replacement one today.

  36. Quade Sherwood

Fantastic light. I have the older version with the rubber side switch. I used this light through Ranger school and it preformed great. still super bright with the red filter and long battery life. I would recommend for anyone as a great all around flash light

  37. TJKoko (verified owner)

It’s a great addition to my mini maglite. And the added feature of variable lumens is just the ticket for battery preservation. ‘Love it.

  38. Ryan

The LD22 – 2015 Upgrade has great versatility for use as both a general purpose flashlight and a backup tactical flashlight. The fact that the flashlight can be powered by both AA Ni Mh rechargeable batteries and AA alkaline batteries. means a user can count on this flashlight during a long-term disaster situation where the ubiquitous AA batteries would be available at any hardware store, pharmacy, convenience store, etc.

The light compares slightly better in brightness and distance to a several year old tactical LED Surefire (powered by a single CR123A) my buddy owns in a side-by-side brightness and distance comparisons. The Surefire had a slightly more concentrated beam than the LD22 – 2015 Upgrade, however not enough to make it a significant difference. Using alkaline AA batteries (Fenix recommends using the AA NI Mh AA), the LD22 – 2015 Upgrade had a greater shine distance than the Surefire. In short, the LD22 – 2015 Upgrade makes for a great overall flashlight that could be used as both a backup tactical flashlight and a superior general purpose flashlight.

this light has everything you could ask for power and runtime I picked up a AD301 red filter with the light amazing the brightness settings with the filter come in very handy around the house applications to camping with the family as we’ll works great with rechargable AA I own ALOT of flashlights but find myself reaching for this light over any of my surefire lights A+++

  40. Dave

Used this thing for a whole year in Afghanistan to preflight my bird. Runs like a champ and has an extra bright setting when you twist the front down all the way (though it gets a little hot on that setting). Best thing about it is it runs on 2xAA’s, which are cheap and plentiful. Also thin enough to fit in that otherwise useless strap-cutter pocket on your flight suit’s left thigh.

  41. JR

Great Light 1/3 the price of my last SureFire, better performance.
AA are cheap and always around. There is now one in my jeep, one in the girl’s Volvo, and one in mu pocket all the time.

  42. Don H.

I recently purchased a LD22 put it through some test and was so impressed I bought a second one.
I going to start looking for a cr123 version next.
