Intelligent Protection

With the light switched on High I, High II or Turbo on Floodlight mode, the light will accumulate a lot of heat for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 65℃ or above:

  1. Spot and floodlight both switched on (High output on Spotlight mode), the light will downshift to 1000 lumens;
  2. Spot and floodlight both switched on (no High output on Spotlight mode), the light will downshift to 1500 lumens.

Time-limited downshift

With the light switched on, if Turbo on floodlight mode is being selected for over 2 minutes or High II for over 5 minutes:

  1. If High on spotlight mode is selected, the light will downshift until to 1000 lumens;
  2. If High on spotlight mode is not selected, then the light will downshift until to 1500 lumens

Note: The abovementioned functions are specially designed for avoiding discomfort and danger caused by the light overheating.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Eco output is reached. When this happens in Eco output mode, the battery level indicator blinks blue to remind you to recharge or replace the battery. To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work until the battery level runs out or the protection circuit activates.

Note: This only works with Fenix 18650 Li-ion battery.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Lock the light or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation. Recharge a stored battery every four months to maintain optimal battery performance.
  • 1 – 4 18650 rechargeable Li-ion batteries can be used (Turbo may not be selected due to battery capacity) for emergency case: insert the batteries with the anode side (+) and the salient point towards the light head, and then screw the tail cap back on. The brightness, runtime and battery life may be compromised.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The batteries need replacing.
Solution: Replace batteries (Ensure batteries are inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Warning

This flashlight is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the flashlight directly into anyone’s eyes.

Awesome!!! Solid construction and amazing brightness for a light this size. Have demo’d it for several friends and they were floored at the power of the flood and the distance of the long range beam.

Good solid light. I have no experience with this type of light but was expecting more than I got. The light is no doubt bright but does not make it like day.

We have 15 acres of pasture in rural Montana. We bought this amazing light to keep an eye on unwanted guests, namely coyotes. It puts out more light than any flashlight we’ve ever seen. The spot and flood features are both awesomely brilliant. You could land a plane with this beast. Battery life is surprisingly good as well. We gladly recommend it to anyone who needs to light up a lot, and I mean a lot of any large area.

Efficiency has many connotations, including energy efficiency, time efficiency, size and weight, and general ease efficiency, this light goes well with the word in every meaning. because the throw and flood lights can be turned off interchangeably, the light only does what you need it to.

the overall output is fair for the size and price of the light. there are just a couple complaints about the light; for one the throw has a caveat, because the center led has little space for the deep reflector, the throw is a little shallow for its size, taking a back seat to impressive lumen output.
please note this is an outdoors light, here’s why: the light cycles through all modes, no short cuts to the low modes. which means going through 11,000 lumens every time you change the flood setting, and 100,000 candela every time you change the thrower.

A few secrets of the LR40R, #1, this light can run at 6,000 lumens, much brighter than my other single 18650 lights limited to one single 18650, which is absurd but true when using an Acebeam 18650. other battieries including my KLarus and Samsung 30Q, and the LGHG2, and the Sony vtc6 battery could not get the 6,000 lumen mode on with only one battery.

#2 the dust cover on the usb charge port is loose and falls out, but this shouldn’t affect the water resist. but might be concerning to some.

#3 the blue bat level indicators level–_down when charging your phone off the light, and level_–up when charging the light, which looks cool and is a nice touch. you’ll see what I mean when you get it, you already know you need this.

#4 the mode memory of the light is permanent, even when taking out the batteries it still knows the last level you were on.

Love the flashlight! Really like that it has both a flood and spot capability. I like the weight of the flashlight and the quality feel in my hand. The open at the top design of the case could be improved. It does allow you to use the light while still in the case and may be why Fenix designed it that way. Easy to use and powerful!

I purchased this light and a PD36r on a whim after someone told me about Fenix flshlights. I will admit after receiving i am very impressed. This light is a powerhouse of light. It is very simple to use and seems like very high quality, When i 1st attempted to try it out i went outside and lit up the flood light. I immediately had to turn it back off cause i was afraid i was going to wake up surrounding neighbors with the amount of light being thrown (it was like 1 am ). I took it into work the next night and played with it all over the place. The spot light was able to light up the top of an 800′ stack while i was probably close to 1000′ from the base. I was also able to light up the inside of the boiler brighter than 2- large LED pineapple lights and a few 13w led bulbs in stringers (large power house boiler). Overall i am 99% happy with this not so cheap flashlight.

Now the things i dont like about this light.

The first thing i found after purchasing that kinda upset me was the holster. It works great for a rent a cop that just stands around or casually walks an area, but if you are active, work where you may bend over or something of the sorts it is horrible. I had this light fall out of its holster 3 times on the first night before i realized its uselessness. I would have paid more for a poly holster similar to a pistol that can be carried horizontally or vertically with a positive retention lock since carrying it vertically causes the bigger head of the light to kinda press into your side.

The 2nd thing i found is the batteries, It claims that in emergencies 1-4 18650’s can be used. Well, that may be true if you have a certain type of 18650. I have no less than 40- 18650 batteries ranging from Nitecore, Efest, a few Samsung, and various others. All but 2 of my batteries (which were 2 from some ebay headlamp) are unable to create a connection so the light will power up( you can her them rattle inside). It seems you need 18650’s with the button tops on the positive side and for 99% of my applications for 18650’s i have not needed, It would be great for Fenix to make a sled that will hold 1-4 standard 18650’s that we could use in place of the battery pack, or make a battery pack that can be charged externally,

The 3rd thing is just kind of my opinion. I think there should be a lower setting on both the spot and the flood. I say this for 2 reasons. The first is that if i am in my tent or just need lighting enough to read and such the flood and spot are both too bright in their lowest settings. The second reason would be just to preserve battery life when you dont need more than say 5-10 lumens of light.

I have no regrets for the most part since this is a great light. Just a few suggestions to Fenix to make this light MUCH more appealing for everyone.

If I could only own one flashlight, this would be it. There are many reasons why I’d choose this light over all of my other lights. 1) Captain obvious here – it’s bright on turbo & high. Insanely bright to be honest. The lowest setting is very useful for searching, walking at night, and lasts forever. 2) The size. It’s hard to believe there is this much power contained in something smaller than the length of my hand. 3) Easy to use. With a billion modes on most flashlights, this one is super easy to toggle between modes using two buttons, one for spot, and one for flood. Easy peasy. 4) Flexibility with batteries. If the battery pack that comes with it runs out and you’re not close to a power source to recharge, you can improvise by using 1,2,3, or 4 (18650) batteries. How many other flashlights give you that many power options? Plus, it uses Type-C charging, which is super fast. 5) Fenix quality. This light is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The machining is perfect and feels great in your hands. It’s tough as nails too. 6) It can charge your phone via the USB port on the rear portion of the light. Just plug in your phone’s charging cable directly into the back of the light and in a pinch, you can have a charge on your phone in an emergency. 7) It’s waterproof! No kidding, you can use this while out working in the yard or whatever job you might have to do in the rain. Great for people who work on a farm since the spotlight can reach very far to see any noise coming from the chicken coop at night. 8) It’s digitally regulated, which means it’ll maintain a constant brightness while using the light. Other brands brightnesses tends to only last for a few minutes before dropping down to only a handful of lumens. 9) It has a battery life indicator built in to give you a visual aid in knowing how much battery you have left. When it turns red it’s time to charge the battery. And lastly, 10) Fenix has an amazing warranty and customer service. These are some of the best people in the business to deal with. Buying from Fenixlighting is the best place to pick up your next Fenix light. I give this one, the LR40R a solid 10.

This thing is bright! I like that you can easily choose the brightness. I’ve seen others say it’s heavy. That’s the feel of a metal flashlight in your hand, not plastic. The size is great too. It’s small so you can pack it away easily. The only drawback is that it does get hot when you run it at its brightest. But if you need to use it for a long time, just knock it down one setting and it won’t get as hot. This is by far my favorite flashlight!

I loved the excellent power of the LR40R flashlight , it is great , but when the flood light is on there is a very noticeable yellow circle near the center of the beam.. I wanted the light to use for night time photography and for underground mining photography ,,, but the bold yellow circle does not allow me to do that in color photos.. I had to return it… I have the Fenix TK51 that I now use, it is only 1800 lumens but it does not have any yellow in its flood light mode ,,, maybe you should use the TK51 LED elements in the LR40R ,,, if you ever get rid of the yellow circle I will buy another one ..

I live out in the woods and at night it gets super dark. With the days getting shorter I need to be able to light up the night around my place. The LR40r is perfect for flooding my yard with intense light or zeroing in from a long distance. Either way I see it before it sees me.

I have a PD35 TAC that I use for everyday carry which is outstanding (5 stars), and this light is also incredible and can handle anything else. It has 4 spotlight options available and 5 floodlight options available. You can also have any spot option and any flood option on at the same time. It has no weakness and is a great light for almost anything you may run into. It is not a lightweight but who cares, it is truly an amazing light.

This flashlight is so strong if you shine it on a man it might knock him right off of his feet! Seriously. Im extremely impressed with the product, it exceeded my expectations. Unreal amount of power. But I screwed up when recharging it and I accidentally shorted the battery (my fault) after receiving my flashlight. I called customer service and they were super cool and helpful. Had a new battery shipped to me IMMEDIATELY and I was back up and running a day later. And they didnt charge me a dime for it and even sent me a coupon towards my next purchase…which I made right away and I love that flashlight as well. This company is solid and they are good to their customers. The products are the best in the market and I will be buying exclusively from Fenix whenever I am looking to get another flashlight. I would recommend to everybody. Thank you!

I have 4 Fenix lights and they are all working great, so far. The Fenix LR40R is an exceptional flashlight. I use it quite often and it’s a perfect size with a great beam of light. I also appreciate the customer support folks at Fenix, especially Dylan. The LR40R was originally out-of-stock and I talked to Dylan about the light. He notified me immediately when the light was back in stock. You can probably find cheaper flashlights, but I feel Fenix makes a quality product that I hope will last for a long time. One final note for DIYer’s, I bought a Fenix HP25R headlamp and I use it constantly for indoor do-it-yourself projects. I highly recommend this headlamp. Once you use it on the first project, you will use it on just about every indoor project. Great headlamp!

Great features for the price. It is a little heavy and does get very hot in a short amount of time but great light output. Flood light does exactly what it says and the spot is great for pinpoint light. Battery last as stated in the Manuel. Love the usb C charging and charges quickly. All in all the best and brightest light I’ve owned.
