*14500 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Only using quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion; but cell damage or short circuiting are considered user induced damage and are not covered by any Fenix warranty or liability.

**The high output of main light mode cannot be operated while using the AA battery.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the tail cap and insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the tail cap back on.

Charging

  1. Loosen the light head to reveal the USB Type-C charging port and plug the USB A socket of the charging cable into an approved USB powered outlet, then connect the USB Type-C socket of the charging cable to the light.
  2. The indicator will display red while charging, and will turn to green when fully charged.
  3. Once charging has completed, be sure to tighten the light head to maintain the dustproof and waterproof functionality.
  4. The normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L14-800 battery is approximately 2 hours from depleted to fully charged. The flashlight cannot be operated while charging.
  5. Note: Internal charging only works with a Fenix ARB-L14 Series 14500 battery.

Battery level indication

Loosen the light head to reveal the battery indicator. Press the switch, the battery indicator will flash for 3 seconds to show the remaining battery power.

Green light on: saturated 100% - 85%

Green light flashes: sufficient 85% - 50%

Red light on: poor 50% - 25%

Red light flashes: critical 25% - 1%

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L14 Series 14500 battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The flashlight will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. The light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature to a safe level when this situation occurs.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Moonlight output is reached. When Moonlight output is reached, the light blinks 3 times every 5 minutes to remind you to recharge or replace the battery.

Note: This feature only works with a Fenix ARB-L14 Series 14500 battery.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Remove the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: Poor battery level.
Solution: Replace or recharge the battery (Ensure the battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Warning

  • DO NOT place this flashlight in the reach of children!
  • Do NOT shine the flashlight directly into the eyes of anyone!
  • Do NOT place light head near flammable objects, high temperatures can cause objects to overheat and become flammable/ignite!
  • Do NOT use the flashlight in inappropriate ways such as holding the unit in your mouth, doing so could cause serious personal injury or death if the flashlight or internal battery fails!
  • This flashlight will accumulate a significant amount of heat while operating, resulting in a high temperature of the flashlight shell. Pay close attention to avoid burns.
  • Remove the battery from the flashlight to prevent accidental activation when the flashlight is placed in a closed-in and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks!
  • The LED of this flashlight is not replaceable; so the whole flashlight will need to be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its lifespan.

Nice light

I love that Fenix has incorporated strong magnets in their already awesome flashlights - it makes their placement so much more versatile.

I'm a big fan of this light (LD12R), the WT16R and CL28R.

Dual lights, side and front facing

Dual lights, side and front facing. Adjustable light levels that are noticable. Easy to operate. Power source is either AA or a good mAh. The magnetic is strong.

Could be great.

Missing a belt holster or case.

Twist motion to change lights is a bit too easy to accidentally trigger.

Excellent flashlight

I have several Fenix flashlights, but I bought this one specifically because of the magnetic pocket clip. I needed a light to use at night around the car, and I wanted to be able to attach it to the car for hands-free work. This light works great for that. The different brightness levels are excellent, and the side light is a very useful and unique feature. I recommend it.

new review from earlier reviewer

I have been using the LD12R for a few weeks and still like it very much. I usually use it with a NIMH rechargeable AA battery. I don't need the turbo brightness considering the really good throw with levels 2 and 3, and it is nice to not have the turbo mode in the sequence of brightness levels.

I do have have one complaint about the way it works. If you are using the SIDE light and turn the flashlight off via the tail switch, when you then turn it back on via the tail switch, the MAIN light comes on, not the SIDE light. Even if you turn the flashlight off by loosening the head, tightening the head turns the main light on.

There appears to be no easy way to turn the flashlight off with the side light ON and then turn it back on and have the SIDE light come back on immediately. I think that this should be fixed in version 2 of the LD12R because it seems incorrect to me. If the sidelight in ON and you turn the flashlight off with the tail switch and then turn it on with the tail switch, the side-light should come back on immediately.

There IS in fact a way to have the side light come back on immediately, but it is so cumbersome that it almost seems like a happy accident:

1) with the side-light ON, click tail switch to turn the flashlight OFF
2) rotate the head to loosen it
3) click the tail switch to turn the flashlight ON (but it will still be off because the head is still loose).
4) tighten the head; the SIDE-light will turn back on immediately

As I said, this is very cumbersome and kind of odd.

World best little handy light!

This little powerhouse flashlight is perfect for the auto glovebox, the basement, garage, or right on your nightstand. I keep mine in my truck glovebox for that emergency tire change or engine problem. Thanks to the whole Fenix-lighting team!

Pocket clip makes this light almost worthless.

It's sad that what should be a genuinely quality product should be brought down by the complete lack of design attention paid to the clip. In case you're wondering, the clip is made of plastic. The plastic pocket clip is awkward, has poor retention strength and does break. Mine has broken and now we'll see what the replacement looks like. My expectations are low.
