Product Overview

The Fenix HM65R-DT Dual Spotlight Headlamp is a new version of the best-selling HM65R Headlamp that features dual spotlights—one spotlight of cool white light, for longer distances, and the other with a very warm 3000K light for better performance in foggy, poor weather conditions. Turn both on at the same time for a combined maximum of 1500 lumens. Powered by the included li-ion battery, this headlamp is USB-C rechargeable and includes a battery level indicator. *18650 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Only use quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion; but cell damage or short circuiting are potential risks the user assumes.

Quality Li-ion battery with protective circuit will reduce risks. Fenix ARB-L18 Series battery is recommended.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the battery cover counter-clockwise to insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the inner side, then screw the battery cover back on.

Charging

  • Uncover the anti-dust cap and plug the USB Type-C side of the charging cable into the charging port of the lamp.
  • The normal charging time of the Fenix ARB-L18-3400 rechargeable battery is about 3 hours with the lamp being switched off. When charging, Low output of white light or warm white light mode can be separately selected. The headlamp will not automatically power on after full charging.
  • When charging, the charging indicators will flash from rear to front to display charging status. In charging process, four indicators flash: below 20%, one constant-on and three flash: 20% - 50%, two constant-on and two flash: 50% - 80%, three constant-on and one flashes: 80% - 95%, four constant-on: charging complete.
  • Replace the anti-dust cap to ensure waterproof and dustproof ability.

Battery Level Indication

With the lamp is switched off, single click either of the two switches to check the battery status, the indicator(s) will last for 3 seconds.

There will be no response with the lamp locked.

Four lights on: 100% - 80%

Three lights on: 80% - 60%

Two lights on: 60% - 40%

One light on: 40% - 20%

One light flashes: 20% - 1%

Note: This only works with Fenix ARB-L18 Series rechargeable battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The lamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used on high, med and low output levels for extended periods. When the lamp reaches a temperature of 65°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 65°C, it will then allow the user for the reselection of the modes.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this happens in Low output mode, one of the battery level indicators blinks to remind you to timely recharge or replace the battery.

Note: This only works with Fenix ARB-L18 Series rechargeable battery.

Headband Assembly

Notice: The headband is factory assembled by default.

Press the rotary press-pull dial, rotate it clockwise to shorten the headband; pull the dial up to loosen the headband.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lamp and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality Fenix battery.
  • If the lamp will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the lamp could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.
  • Lock the lamp or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: Poor battery level.
Solution: Rehcarge or replace the battery.
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

  • Do NOT shine the headlamp directly into the eyes of anyone!
  • Do NOT shine flammable objects at close range, to avoid burning objects or causing danger due to high temperature!
  • Do NOT use the headlamp in inappropriate ways such as biting in the mouth, to avoid personal injury or life threats when the headlamp or internal battery fails!
  • This headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat while working, resulting in a high temperature of the headlamp shell. Pay attention to safe use to avoid scalding.
  • Turn off and lock the headlamp or remove the battery from the headlamp to prevent accidental activation when the headlamp is placed in a closed and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks!
  • The LED of this headlamp is not replaceable; so the whole headlamp should be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its life.

Q1. What kind of LEDs are used in HM65R-DT? Does Fenix offer to replace LED?

A: A Luminus SST40 white light LED and a SST20 warm white light LED; with a lifespan of 50,000 hours.

Fenix does not provide LED replacement services for the time being, and users are not recommended to replace the LEDs independently, which may affect product performance and cause product damage.

Q2. What is the color temperature of HM65R-DT?

A: The color temperature of white light is around 6500K, the color temperature of warm white light is around 3000K.

Q3. What is the operating voltage of HM65R-DT?

A: The operating voltage is 3.6 V. The operating current is 4.2 A. The rated wattage is 15 W.

Q4. Is HM65R-DT rechargeable? How long is the charging time?

A: HM65R-DT is rechargeable. Uncover the anti-dust cap and plug the USB Type-C side of the charging cable into the charging port of the lamp to charge the lamp. The charging time is about 3 hours from depleted to fully charged. When charging is complete, replace the anti-dust cap to ensure waterproof and dustproof ability.

Q5. How to prevent accidental activation of the HM65R-DT?

A: Lock: when the lamp is switched off, press and hold either of the switches for 3 seconds or simultaneously press both of the switches for 3 seconds, the warm white light will blink 4 times to indicate the locked status.

Unlock: when the lamp is locked, press and hold both of the switches for 3 seconds, the warm white light will blink 4 times to indicate unlocked status and activate on Low of warm white light mode.

In locked status, clicking or pressing the switches will activate 4 blinks on Low of warm white light mode to indicate the locked status.

Q6. Why does the HM65R-DT downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

A: There are two reasons:

1. Intelligent Overheat Protection

The lamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at relatively high output levels for extended periods. When the lamp reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature.

2. Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached.

Q7. Why does the HM65R-DT happen to flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

A: Poor battery level.

Solution: Recharge or replace the battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).

B: The contact point or contact of the battery or headlamp is dirty.

Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

Q8. What kind of battery can be used in HM65R-DT?

A: Fenix ARB-L18-3400 battery is recommended. Compatible with 2 x CR123A batteries. Other Li-ion batteries are not recommended. As High output fail to headlamp up due to current and voltage limitation, an unmatched battery may cause the headlamp to fail to work normally.

Q9. Is the HM65R battery port waterproof?

A. The light is waterproof so long as the battery port cover is in place.

Q10. What should I do if the HM65R-DT needs repair?

A: 1. 15-day replacement: Fenix will replace identical or equal products with documented manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase.

2. 5-year free repair: Fenix will repair a light free of charge within 5 years (rechargeable battery: 1 year) of purchase if problems develop with normal use.

3. Lifetime maintenance: If repair is required after 5 years from the date of purchase, Fenix will charge for parts. The total repair fee is dictated by the cost of the replaced materials.

4. If you need warranty service, fill out the warranty form at https://www.fenixlighting.com/pages/warranty-repairs to start your repair claim.

Great headlamp for trail running.

Having logged thousands of miles with Fenix and numerous other brands (Petzl, Black Diamond, etc) I can confidently say Fenix headlamps are the best trail running headlamp. I have used the HM65R-T extensively as I often run the majority of my weekly trail miles in the dark. It is absolutely fantastic. I purchased the HM65R-DT specifically to have improved visibility in rain and fog. The “warm white light” function does reduce light reflection and therefore slightly improve visibility in dense fog but not nearly as much of an improvement as I had hoped for. Even in heavy rain I still opt for the brighter high or med setting on the cool white light. If you run in dense fog a lot or prefer a warmer light then the HM65R-DT is a great choice. If you want flood and spot options then go with the HM65R-T. Both are top of the line headlamps ideal for trail running.

I am really trying to like this light...

I was super stoked to try this light. I was looking for something bright. Turn it on high and it's pretty much what I was hoping for, but it won't stay in high mode for long as the heat/temp protection kicks in pretty quickly (minutes). I was using it in 30-ish degree (F) weather so I felt like it should have lasted a good while on high but it just doesn't. The medium setting is good light but without the ability to run steady on high in 30 degree weather means the high setting is useless unless you just need it for a few minutes at a time. That's not what I was expecting from this light. This was also my first light with the band that has the wonky adjustment. Not good on a bald head. Need to use a beanie of sorts and that's fine during the winter but I can't imagine using this during a summer hunt to get out of the woods or do any searching. I'll put it with the rest and keep looking.

Awesome light

This headlamp is incredible! Dusk mornings headed fishing in the summer definitely lit the way! Now winter, the light shines across the lake from our cabin! We were all in awe! Great purchase and buying my second one right now!

Best headlamp I've owned.

Petzl, Black Diamond, all good equipment, but this takes the cake. Camping on the AT, ice fishing in Delta Junction, night beach fishing in St Pete, finding the last bolt holding my transmission in place, this headlamp has been there in outstanding fashion. I was excited by their flashlights, but definitely sold on Fenix with this headlamp. I even bought my wife one after she kept stealing mine.
