Twist the flashlight head on the Fenix FD40 to switch between spotlight for long-distance viewing and floodlight for up-close illumination. With the latest Cree XP-L HI LED, the Fenix FD40 flashlight features 1000 lumen maximum output, from only one 26650 or one 18650 Li-ion battery. This ultra-compact flashlight has six output modes including strobe. The stainless steel side switch with lock-out function ensures FD40 against accidental activation.

The FD-40 is probably the nicest torch I've ever owned, but sadly, Fenix no longer make one that's both 26650 *and* focusable, both requirements in my selection matrix.
Had to buy a second one when my first one walked off after 3 years, 2 or 3 years into my second one it took a particularly hard fall on tile, and the warranty replaced it with, I gather, one of the last few they had laying around.
This is a great light for many applications, it works great as a around the house light, hunting light or vehicle light, or even a tac light. I like the 5 different settings. My favorite aspect of it is the zoom-able lens, The light is very well built.
I just received my FD40 today. Great features. I'm impressed that Fenix made such a well thought out light to work with the 26650 battery. I also like that the FD40 uses the latest 2015 Cree LED that's high powered, efficient, and is specifically designed to work with a flashlight that "tunes" the light from flood to spot. This light has everything: Latest 2015 LED, flood to spot zoom, big powerful long lasting battery, compact - fit in hand size, nice spread out output options from 1000 down to 8 lumens. Built like a tank, and of course ..... waterproof. This is a great light for every need. You can stand it on it's end and choose the 8 lumen output to flood the ceiling of a room when the electricity goes out for days & days & days on one charge, or turn up the lumens to make "daylight". With the tight focusing zoom and high lumens you can throw a bright white beam really far when you are outside.
