This is a great light, lasts a long time, is weather proof and rugged. Great survival, hunting, fishing, tactical light. One criticism. The on-off button is easily engaged while the device is in your bag. It can accidentally get turned on while in the bag causing the battery to go dead. I suggest you buy either this light,… or a better light with an on off switch that is more recessed.

The best head lamp I have owned. I hunt and work night shift often, so I bought two. I keep one in my hunting kit and one at work. I use them every day in all weather environments. Can’t carry it in your pocket, because there is no lock-out switch, and it will turn on when pressed. I like it that I can use CR123 batteries; I don’t always have a way to recharge. One of my favorite specs is the metal clip on the hand band. It has infinite angle adjustments, and I can just snatch it off to use in my hand when needed and snap it back on the head band. Hold the head band when you snatch it off, or the metal clip will release when the head band stretches to the the “six inches from your head” distance and smack you. The only improvements I would make to it is add a lock-out switch so it cannot be turned on accidentally, and add a magnet on the battery cap. I hot-blued a magnet to my battery cap. I rated it at four stars, because it got accidentally turned on several times and killed the battery.

I really like this light. It replaced an old Fenix model 30. A bit of a battery eater on max beam but well worth it.
The directional ability to rotate the beam to any angle needed is fantastic.

Used this lamp for hunting. Worked great for the 1hr hike into the woods before first light. Was very light and handy in the field.

I’m having the same problems as Kevin except my headlamp did not get knocked around at all. I was very careful with it since I mainly use it when taking the dog out to potty late at night. Very frustrating that the light goes out and won’t turn back on. If that happens, then the only solution would be to take the battery out for a while, but sometimes that doesn’t work.

I found this headlamp to be really good for about the first year. It was very bright, the steps between levels made sense and was very useful. However, after it got knocked around a bit, not severely, just in/out of a pack, pocket or trunk, it sometimes does not come on. Even after it had been on 30 secs before. very frustrating. Currently trying to find a headlamp that has fully potted electronics.

Suitable for multi-day backpacking with one caveat explained below.

For multi-day backpacking the important considerations are illumination-to-weight ratio including the weight of all batteries and durability.

This device has excellent illumination-to-weight ratio. Uses same AA batteries commonly used by other backpacking equipment, which reduces the weight of extra batteries carried. Good durability. Good waterpoof design. Well made. These qualities make it my main choice for illumination when leaving civilization for several days while carrying everything I need on my back.

Main complaint: No off lock. This is a serious problem. First, it requires carrying an extra battery. Even with an extra battery, to prevent battery from accidentally discharging in a pack, you have to remove the battery and reverse it every time you start or stop using the light, which is every morning and every evening. As a half-measure you can try to be careful to always turn it off in the lowest illumination so that if it does turn on accidentally you have a good chance of noticing it before the battery drains completely. Still, the total weight of light and necessary batteries could be cut considerably with a lock-off switch that cannot be accidentally disabled.

Love mine; it’s seen near daily use for about a year now… often for hours at a time. Light weight, comfortable; exceptional battery life. No pulse width modulation (strobing) and regulated output are wonderful. Simi flood beam is perfect for close in work, light color is perfect. 5 stars all the way!

I absolutely love the construction and function of this light. I have to say this is the BEST Headlamp I’ve ever used, its not some flimsy plastic headlamp that is permanently attached to the headband like many other designs with a high price tag! This light is worth the price and then some and then to add the option of being able to use two different kinds of batteries!!! The build on this light and function/options is the future of headlamps, I’m sure you will see many other reputable companies switching to this style!
    P.S
And there customer service can not be beat!

Bought this because I am a low voltage tech who needed a light that could attach to my hard hat AND detach in a hurry for those times you just need to see whats up there in the cieling. This thing is so great because it does everything I need it to. Not only can I look at a print clearly in a completely dark room, I can also conserve battery when I need to on low setting or step it up a couple notches to ultra, blind somebody in the eye, bright when I need to. And I mean it when I say it can blind someone in the eye! Overall, I am extraordinarily happy with this purchase. The thing is solid designed, its very light (weight), can be used to look where you look (attached) or used in your hand as a flashlight. I have also used the silver prong where the battery compartment is and it has enough resistance to STAY at the angle I place it at while being able to light up my work space and do things with my hands. Not sure if Fenix designed it to do that, but if you did, PROPS to you! Awesome job! I never have to look for another light. With a lifetime warranty I believe I have nothing more to worry about. You just made my trade MUCH easier. Trust me, I have bought other cheap lights, but this one time you spend about fifty bucks you get something SO much better and its like having 3-4 different products in one.. Consider it an investment. Glad I spent the money.

    Great flashlight,

Have been using it in military activities.

The only thing it’s missing is a red diffuser tip.
