Warning:
- Do not use the banned battery in case of overvoltage burnout in circuit component.
- Use quality batteries. Do not mix batteries of different brands, sizes, capacities or types. Doing so may cause damage to the lantern or the batteries being used.
- If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries from the light in case of damage by electrolyte leakage.
Battery Replacement
Unscrew the light head to insert the batteries with correct polarity in accordance with the graphics on the top surface of the battery compartment, then screw the light head back on.
Overheat Protection
The light will accumulate a lot of heat when used on Turbo for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the light will automatically step down to 300 lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C, it will then automatically return to Turbo mode.
Usage and Maintenance
- Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
- Fenix recommends using quality batteries with proper built-in protections.
- If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.
- Unscrew the tail cap half a turn or take out the batteries to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
- Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare (included) when damaged.
- Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the light’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the light to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
A: The batteries need replacing.
Solution: Replace batteries (Ensure batteries are inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.
If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.
Warning
- This flashlight is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the flashlight directly into anyone’s eyes.
- This flashlight will accumulate a lot of heat when used for extended periods, resulting in high temperature of the flashlight shell. Pay attention to safe use to avoid scalding.

On off and increasing power too difficult. There are much easier design solutions.

Eats batteries very quickly even at the lower settings

Ease of use should be appreciated, and this light excels at it. My only disappointment is in the width of the beam. I wanted this as a general purpose, no-fumbling-around-trying-to-remember-how-to-turn-it-on-without-giving-myself-a-strobing-seizure light. But the narrow beam limits its usefulness for me. I wanted to get one for my 85+ year old father, but he’d need a wider beam for his general purposes usage.

Good light

This is a very bright flashlight on its highest setting. I really like the adjustable head for brightness. The handle is a little different with it being rectangular shape but overall is really comfortable and im gonna test out its durability this hunting season.

I feel that this is an excellent light for general use. It throws a very respectable beam. It is as bright as one would want for general purpose use. It also has long run times especially on the lower power settings. This is extremely important for power outages which are becoming more frequent of late. The LD42 and a 12 pack of AA’s should easily get you through at least a week with judicious use.
The plastic body does not bother me in the least. I hold no illusions about going on a special ops mission and needing a bullet proof light. That being said I wish that the holster was of a little better quality
The rotary switch is very easy to find in the dark as opposed to so many of the “tactical” lights on the market today. It is also easily manipulated by these old worn out hands.
Everyone should have a good general purpose light in their emergency, get home, get out, whatever kit. I feel that the LD42 fills this purpose very nicely.

New type switch works great

It is very bright. It is a little heavier than I anticipated and after using your other lights with the button on the back, it took a little getting used to the dial control.

Finally a light that you can just simply turn the head one way and make it brighter!! Nothing to figure out or remember. Got one for me and my father. No more explaining how to turn on and what trick to to do to make it brighter.

This is a nice flashlight. Feels good in your hand. Rotary switch is easy to manipulate while holding the light. Bright center with very usable halo/spill. Will run it on the included alkaline batteries until they die and then switch to NiMH’s. Did not read the specification’s close enough to catch that the body is made out of PLASTIC. Was disappointed when I opened the box expecting an all aluminum flashlight and found the plastic body. My fault, not Fenix’s, it’s written in the specs.
Sorry Fenix!!! One star off for slipping a plastic flashlight into my personal, ever growing, inventory of Quality Aluminum Fenix Lights…
