The Fenix HL40R rechargeable headlamp is one of the most feature-rich headlamps on the market. Rotate the headlamp’s head to adjust any of the light’s six outputs between floodlight and spotlight. The battery level indicator lets you know when to recharge the built-in battery via the micro-USB port.  A 600 lumen burst (1 minute before downshift) and ultra low 4 lumen with 200 hrs of runtime highlight the six lighting modes making sure you have just the right amount of light for your activity.  The overlapping headband ensures a secure fit. The HL40R is rain proof, splash proof and dust proof to IP66 rating; helping your adventure continue no matter what your environment.

I absolutely love this headlamp. The strap for around the head is simple, yet most effective. I love how light it feels on my head and the brightness of the lamp. I’ve taken it on night skis, backpacking, and when working on my van with full success. My wife also likes this headlamp more than any one she’s used before, which is high praise from her.

I had been using the HL30 for awhile now when doing Home Inspections but found that when I would light up an area and take a picture, the focused beam of light was to much for the picture even if on a lower light setting. I contacted customer service and Colt suggested this one, and it’s great on the floodlight setting to take pictures, but if I need to have a brighter light to see something better, a simple turn of the bezel and it’s a spotlight. I’m not sure what James was talking about in his review about it being complex, it’s a very simple headlamp to use and I would recommend this light to anyone.

TBH: this is the most irritating headlamp to use. It’s powerful and the focus is excellent. The actual manipulation of this headlamp is unnecessarily complex and kind of a pain to figure out unless you want to read the full manual. I would personally sacrifice the lumens in order to have a more simplistuc functionality

I love the headlamp but the battery life is not as long as advertised. Would be a great product with a battery pack – AA or AAA. I thought I’d like rechargeable, but I think I was wrong.

I decided to try the Fenix based on positive reviews. After a month I have a few observations.
    1. it works as advertised
    2. the spot focus is insufficiently narrow, limiting range
    3. it is not as bright as its lumen rating
    4. it has three light intensities. I would prefer a variable intensity.
    5. the head band is funky
    6. if you don’t use the recharge feature; it eats batteries.

I GOT THIS ONE FOR ME! WANTED TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO FOCUS SO I COULD WORK IN CONFINED AREAS.
