The Fenix FD65 Focus Flashlight is a beast of a light in fairly compact form.  Its neutral white LEDs and high-efficient TIR optical lens allow this flashlight to blast 3800 lumens of light one-quarter of a mile when focused to a tighter 10° spotlight For a wider beam, simply twist of the flashlight’s head to transition to a 90° floodlight (for greater close-in visibility). The simple operation of switching through its 5 light levels and 2 strobe modes are done by its highly functional side switches that are built into the compact 6″ long and 2″ diameter body. Waterproof/dustproof design continues the long list of attributes that make this the ultimate tool for search/rescue, security and professional applications.

I’ve had this light for a while now and I’m really enjoying it. When set to flood, you get a huge, very even circle of light, almost like a theater spot light. Twist it to spot and you get a somewhat tight spot of light that easily illuminates things at a distance. Do note, the ECO mode on this light is 50 lumens so it’s not a firefly mode but I don’t feel it’s needed in a light like this. I have plenty of sub lumen flashlights if I need them.
The bulk of my lights are cool what as the odd greenish tint of the neutral white never really appealed to me but I have to say that CREE got this one right with the XHP35 HI used in this light. This is easily the nicest tint of neutral LED I’ve seen and I really like it.
One thing I found with my FD30 that seems to be the same with the FD65 is if you leave the focus ring set to ether extreme when not in use, it’s a bit difficult to rotate the ring again at first use. Because of this, I try to remember to leave the focus ring at a mid point and then it rotates freely every time when you need it.
Overall, an really great light and a nice addition to my collection.
