Strobe
With the light unlocked, press and hold the side switch for 1.2s to enter strobe mode, single click the side switch again to turn back to general mode.

To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work till the battery protection activates. Note: This only works with 16340 Li-ion battery.

Battery Replacement
Unscrew the tail cap to insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the light head back on.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Lock the light or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation. Recharge a stored battery every four months to maintain optimal battery performance.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

This light is fantastic in so many ways. I’ve looked at all the mini cr123 lights that are small enough to be at home on a somewhat bulky keychain and this one hits all the marks.

The TIR gives a good balance of throw and coverage without adding too much length. The warmth of the light looks almost like an incandescent bulb but is so much more powerful. The light levels/spacing is perfect. Nearly all of the others in this class have a middle of 100 lumens which is not quite enough for walking in the dark in the rain – 100 lumens is fine in dry conditions, but rain seems to soak up light. Additionally, the ultra-low is perfect for getting around the house/tent at night with dark-adjusted eyes. The build quality is superb and it takes a rechargeable battery. I love that it has a battery indicator – I prefer the indicator on my uc35 which flashes the level briefly every time the light comes on, but just having an indicator in a light this size is wonderful. The only real competitor to this light that hits all the marks but one -is the foursevens mini… but it doesn’t take a rechargeable battery – only primaries. The Eagletac Mini C with a Nichia 219C would hit all the marks, but they no longer make it and the Clicky version is longer IIRC, so this light stands alone at the top of its class.

The only downside to this light is that I’ve had it come on in my pocket a few times because I forgot to lock it out – but now I just unscrew it half a turn – problem solved, and the thread milling is so smooth I can tighten and activate the light with one hand, so no harm no foul. A small thing to consider for future products is a way to make it easier to find the side switch. Raise the surround of the switch or carve a logo into the switch… just something to make it easier to find the switch in complete darkness. But that’s a very small issue. This is the best keychain light I’ve ever had – by a very large margin. Well done, folks!

This is a nice light. The main issue I have so far, is having it turn on in my pocket. I lock it and slide the clip over the button. I only notice when I’m in pain from the heat. The button on this and the lock mechanism just don’t cut it for a keychain pocket carry! I should have bought the same Fenix light I had before with the twist activation instead! Battery dies very fast in turbo mode also.

I really like the light. It’s a very good size for carrying on a suspension clip in the pocket, I also like the two way pocket clip for my hat, so I can use it hands free. My biggest complaint is the strength of the magnet on the base, the light can support it’s own wight, it just feels very weak. My second biggest complaint is how hot the light becomes when left on strobe for an extended period. I accidentally forgot to lock it out, and the strobe function activated in my pocket, by the time I noticed it the light had become so hot that it was painful to the touch. Don’t get me wrong I really do like the light, and have never had a problem with the heat under normal use times for any function. I recommend the light to anyone who want something that is small and easy to carry, with good brightness levels, it’s crazy how bright turbo is for such a small light.

I have owned the Fenix e16 light since they were first introduced here at Fenixlighting last fall. Just wanted to post a 6 month review on what has been a near perfect pocket flashlight.I have carried it every day since I got it.

First the size is very small. It is small enough not to notice it in your front pocket. I removed the clip on mine and added a short braided piece of bright orange paracord to grab it by, and help spot it if dropped or misplaced. It’s small lol.
I really like both the tint of this light and the tir lens. It is a warm tint that is very pleasing to the eye in low mode but is still brilliant bright on high and turbo. I really appreciate the 3 lumen eco mode, I use it the most of all. The new TIR lens is very impressive it lights the area all around in front of you with no “cone” effect to mess with your vision, while at the same time casting a very decent beam and hot spot. The lens itself has held up great. no scratches at all. I would love to see this same led/lens setup in a headlamp. Really seems perfect for it.
Battery life is very good on eco and low. High and turbo will burn it up quick but worth it for how bright it is. Bought a backup battery but seldom need it. For a light this size turbo is amazing bright. It easily lights up my back yard and beyond.
Switch works well other than being a bit hard to find in the dark. Really like the double press to lock feature. Needed on a light like this.
The finish has held up great. Still looks almost new really. I have used it near constant both as a flashlight and as a headlamp in an aftermarket headband. I really can’t say enough how well I like this light. For the price it is all the light most people need, in a tiny size. Can’t wait to use it more this spring for more camping/hiking.

I would love to see Fenix use this same led/lens setup in a headlamp, or even a larger 18650 powered flashlight of this style.
I own several Fenix lights, a pd35 v2, hl60r, e15 ,e12 but this little e16 is on me all the time and is by far the most used. Very good product.

    • Dianne

Hello Russell – there are two ways to keep the light from turning on in your pocket. The first is the electronic lockout function:

Lock: With the light unlocked, press the side switch twice within 0.5s. The light will blink twice on Med to indicate locked status.
Unlock: With the light is locked, press the side switch twice within 0.5s. The light will be unlocked and activated on last used brightness.
In locked status, clicking or pressing the switches will activate 2 one-second blinks to indicate locked status.

If you want a quick, easy way to prevent the light from turning on, simply rotate the clip so that it covers the side switch and this will prevent the switch from getting activated.

Love this light! The second power on it is perfect for reading, and the yellowish quality of it is soothing to the eyes. If I need a shot of more power, it’s right there, though I almost never use it. And it’s so easy to carry around. I just clip it to my shirt pocket. In addition, I also use it outdoors at night when I’m clearing snow; just clip it to my ball cap. It punches way above its weight and size. Highly recommended.

It is a powerful little light and the reversible clip and magnet back-end have come to be useful more times that I thought. I can not attest to the accuracy of the lumen rating or foot candles (it’s damn bright). My only issue thus far is, in the dark, the button is incredibly hard to find. A rounded rubber would have saved me a bit of time fumbling in the dark.

Fenix Lighting CEO REVIEW AND COMMENT:
I’m going to step in and post a review to hopefully help some from purchasing a product that doesn’t fit what they are really looking to get.
1st: This product has a neutral LED that has a much more yellow tint than a white tint. If you want a more white tinted LED, generally speaking stay away from neutral LED’s.
2nd: The product has no rear switch. It’s a side switch operation only. So if you want a smaller light with rear switch capability I would look to the PD25, RC05SE, or LD02 (depending what power source you are looking at.
3rd: This product is small. Very small. Think smaller than your thumb for most. Some love that size and other find it too small to operate effectively.
4th: This product does produce a lot of heat in a very quick fashion. Therefore we have to produce a kickdown to the 300-280 lumen level before too much time passes and heat builds.
I view this product as a cool product if you like small lights with neutral tint. I personally would recommend the new E18R because the color tint is a cool white and I like the magnetic rechargeable port capability. But this product for the price is also nice.

I hope this helps with your purchasing decision and we look forward to supporting you in your lighting decisions in the future.

This light has great potential, but it has two strong drawbacks. First, the light gets hot, very hot at turbo setting. It gets so hot that one cannot hold it. The second drawback for me is that the emitted light is extremely warm, literally yellow in temperature. I own many flashlights but this is the warmest (color temperature) output of any I own by mile. The light output is displeasing in my opinion. On the positive side, I believe the output on turbo mode is genuinely 700 lumens. It is also well machined and has a feel of quality.

      Electronic Lockout Function
Lock: With the light unlocked, press the side switch twice within 0.5s. The light will blink twice on Med to indicate locked status.
Unlock: With the light is locked, press the side switch twice within 0.5s. The light will be unlocked and activated on last used brightness.

Nice and compact. Unfortunately it gets way too hot on turbo setting and the battery life on that setting is abysmal. Just eliminate the turbo mode. Also the rear magnet is very weak and won’t hold up it’s own weight. I do not reccomend this for the high price fenix charges for its products.

I own several Fenix products but am disappointed for the first time in this product. It doesn’t function as advertised. It will only return to the last chosen brightness if you do not lock it. If you lock it, it starts on the minimum brightness after you unlock it. Also, it’s light is much yellower than my E15 making the E16 appear dimmer than my E16. If my E15 needs replacing, I’ll order another E15.

Very small and very bright! Really hard to believe how much power this tiny little light has. On turbo it will easily light up my half acre backyard like daylight. The lowest mode is perfect for maintaining night vision and I am very happy Fenix is offering these lower output modes on their lights. Though not a true moonlight mode at 3 lumens the soft tint of the led makes it very nice. Be sure to use Fenix 16340 batteries for best performance! Very good battery life on the lower modes but not surprisingly turbo runs it down pretty quick. Also puts out alot of heat when on turbo. But on this type of small light the turbo is really best use in short bursts like to clear the lawn of wildlife when taking the dog out at night and Impressing friends. Not sure why there are so many poor reviews for this light. I like mine more all the time.

Nice light, compact. However, the attachment point for a key ring is on the inner part of the middle of the clip, making it very difficult to slip on a key ring. Suggest redesign so that the key ring eyelet is on the outer side of the clip, at the rear of the light. This would facilitate easy fastening/attaching of a key ring and make the light more ergonomic. Also, the device does get quite warm in operation on the bright setting. A heat sink/dissipated would be a good design addition.

Perfect EDC size. Turbo setting is blinding. Controls are intuitive and the lockout feature is awesome. Fit and finish what I expect from Fenix. I own many Fenix lights but this one is my favorite. I didn’t really like the clip when I got it but it’s much more useful than I thought it would be. It clips on the outside of my pants pocket and holds the light at the top inside portion of my pocket in easy reach. This is the first clip I’ve used and I hope it lasts as well as the flashlights I’ve owned in the past from Fenix.

I love all the compact fenix flashlights! But I did myself a favor and got the usb rechargeable batt. I love carrying this light camping– hardly noticeable — that is until you turn it on. i love the low profile on/off switch. also, it’s a smart light. the features are handy (remembers last brightness setting so you don’t have to cycle through modes… etc). totally badass, and brighter than your maglite mini / comparable flashlights. Great key chain light! Very compact and bright enough for any task. The USB battery is a brilliant design, recommend it highly.

The lock out function is well thought out. While locked out, it blinks quickly to let you know it’s on. Easily (but not too easily) turned off. Will certainly save the battery, as it is somewhat easy to inadvertently turn on in your pocket.

Beam is just right, no hot spot, only a brighter center spot.

I bought the Fenix E16 to ensure I always have a small, reasonably powerful light on me while traveling. It does what I want almost perfectly. This light is a mini-powerhouse, with multiple levels, intelligently spaced, for whatever level of lighting you might reasonably need. The clip is useful; its also easily removed if you prefer snag-free pocket carry. The lockout mode is easy to access and easy to disable. Build quality is excellent and robust, especially given this light’s diminutive size. This light would make an excellent gift (as a birthday, holiday, or groomsman gift) for those so inclined. Buy one…you won’t be disappointed.

The Fenix E16 EDC light is small in size but big in output! When I received this light in the mail I was shocked by how small it was. It has quickly found a home in my pocket everywhere I go!

I always seem to find a reason to use a light whether it’s to take out the trash, going on my morning walks or to search for a toy my children lost in the car. This little light is great for those tasks. It has up to 700 lumens of light when on turbo! 700 lumens! It’s literally the size of my thumb! On low it gives you 3 lumens, which is great for getting around the house in the middle of the night. It has a IP68 waterproof and dust proof rating so I don’t have to worry about it if I get caught out in the rain or the harsh foundry environment I work in.

The Fenix E16 has a magnetic base so it’s a great light to use if I need to work on your truck or to change a tire. With the two-way body clip it makes it easy to clip to a ball cap to free up both hands to work.

Also like the low 3 lumen mode. Great mode spacing. Turbo on my light works as advertised and is quite impressive. Compared to my e15 it is a good bit brighter. I’m using the Fenix arb-l16-700 battery in mine. Does heat up a bit but I figure the turbo on a lil light like this is best for short bursts anyhow. Like the side switch but wish it had a couple small “ears” molded around it to provide a bit of protection. Overall I’m happy to see Fenix making a light like this. It will be my edc pocket light from now on so time will tell how it Holds up.

Right up there with everyone else, not 700 lumens and mine shuts down after 7 seconds on turbo!

I was disappointed with this light. The neutral white tint is great however the beam quality is terrible. I’m sorry but this is not even close to 700 lumens… more like 500 lumens at best. The light also heats up instantly in turbo and is gets way too hot (burned my finger). I also noticed flickering in turbo mode after about 10 seconds. The LED seems to draw too many amps for the battery to handle. I ordered better 16340 batteries hoping that fixes the flickering in turbo mode. I love Fenix flashlights but this one is not my favorite.

I got my E16 the a couple days ago and am very disappointed. I somehow missed that it is a warm white light temperature rather than the bright white. I really dislike the warm white, as it looks like incandescent. But that’s on me for not reading close enough. But the light output claim is waaaaay off. I don’t have a meter, but this thing is not even close to its 700 lumen claim (with 16340). I really question the 300 lumen rating (with CR123). Looks to me like Fenix is trying to produce a competitor to the Olight S1. The EC16 is a little shorter than the Olight, but not even close on light output. If you want a light in this category, do not buy this one. The Olight S1 is a much better alternative. I have no less than 10 Fenix lights so I love the brand. But they really missed their mark on this one in my opinion.
