Output Selection

With the lamp switched on, single click the switch to cycle through Low→Med→High.
Note: Low mode is activated by default when the lamp is turned on.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the battery cap to insert the battery in accordance with the polarity marks, then screw the battery cap back on.

Low Voltage Warning

With the lamp switched on, if the voltage level drops below the preset level, the lamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until low output is reached. When this happens in low output, the lamp blinks to remind you to replace the battery. To ensure normal use, the lamp will not turn off automatically and will work until the battery level runs out.

Headband Assembly

Notice: The headband is factory assembled by default.
Step 1: Attach the headband to the headlamp as shown (Pic Ⅰ-Ⅷ).
Step 2: Adjust the headband by sliding the buckle to required length.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lamp and will void the warranty.
  • Loosen the battery cover or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

The headlamp is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage to the user or others. Avoid shining the lamp directly into anyone’s eyes.

Please bring back the HL23 !!! I have received and used my HM23 for a few days/nights now and it is several steps backwards compared to the HL23. It is smaller, lighter and has a nice head band but that is all.
It will just say it, the HM23 doesn’t even start to compared to the HL23 which I have a few of. It is difficult to adjust the light angle with the rubber holder and it will not run on high but for a few mins before switching to lower setting. I have been a Fenix customer for a few years now owning several different flashlights, when the e21 flashlight was discontinued I was very disappointed, I tried the units that were supposed to replace it, they didn’t and I turned to a different brand for a AA torch. I am very hard on lights and go through several yearly either from my own rough usage or I loose them. Now it seems I will have to find a different brand of headlight as the HM23 is not even close to a comparable replacement for the HL23.

Headlamp was purchased because of good advertised output/run-time on a single AA battery. Fenix fails to state that this light will only run on high output for approx. 10 minutes and medium output for approx 20 mins. before automatically switching over to low power. Once on low power, it cannot be changed (“until light cools off”). This light will not be useful to you unless you plan on running it on low power all the time. I would not recommend to others.

Just look at the runtime chart. It’s obvious this light won’t stay in full brightness in High or even Medium mode for more than a few minutes. You can’t get the claimed brightness for the claimed runtime out of this light.

That’s super dishonest, Fenix. Shame on you.

The chart on the website specifically states that the high output is measured in total of run time including output at reduced levels due to temperature or protection mechanism in the design. We also include a chart in pictures of the products that shows how the drop off occurs, so we are not sure how this is dishonest of us when we show this on our product page.
