Product Overview

The Fenix FD65 Focus Flashlight is a beast of a light in fairly compact form. Its neutral white LEDs and high-efficient TIR optical lens allow this flashlight to blast 3800 lumens of light one-quarter of a mile when focused to a tighter 10° spotlight. For a wider beam, simply twist the flashlight’s head to transition to a 90° floodlight (for greater close-in visibility). The simple operation of switching through its 5 light levels and 2 strobe modes are done by its highly functional side switches that are built into the compact 6″ long and 2″ diameter body. Waterproof/dustproof design continues the long list of attributes that make this the ultimate tool for search/rescue, security and professional applications.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Eco output is reached. When this happens in Eco output mode, the flashlight blinks three times every five minutes to remind you to replace the batteries. To ensure normal use, the flashlight will not turn off automatically and will work until the batteries protection activate.

This is actually a great light with excellent functionality.
The beam is just great and the flood light is so smooth you can take photos to it.

Unfortunately Fenix decided to discontinue this model and not to make other focus lights.

I have my FD65 about 3 months now and this light checks off all the boxes. It's a great light, it's super bright, the focus is exceptional from huge flood to tight spot light, and great battery life. I ride a Harley and we take many weekend trips and the FD65 is my go to light for traveling. The flood is real handy for road work to light up your area and make yourself easier to be seen. I use Fenix 3500 mAh battery and I use the light above average and I charge my FD65 about every 3 to 4 weeks and that's only because I don't want to be caught short not because it needs it. The U.I. on the FD65 is so well thought out, that was the deciding reason I chose the FD65 over the LD75C. After turning it on its only 1 click to Low or 1 click to Turbo, Plus Instant Strobe or S.O.S. I also own a TK35UE and the only bad thing I have to say about them is it's Difficult to decide which one to take with me each day. My Fenix collection will be completed when I get a LD75C or a TK32 to add some color to my lights. Thank you Fenix for your exceptional quality products.

The focus ring is too tight. It needs updating with a battery condition LED like some of the other lights but other than that, it is a great light.

Well worth the money spent. I am a cave guide at a National Park and take visitors through the cave 3-4 times a day. The light is an excellent way to point out things of interest as well as keeping the folks safe. I volunteer 4 days a week, and the light shows no sign of dimming during that time. Customer service is great, too. The low beam switch felt a little odd, so I spoke with Cort in Customer Service. He understood the problem and also understood my need for the light, so my we turn and his replacement crossed paths in the mail. Would heartily recommend both the technology and the company support.

Just arrived today with the 3500mAH battery kit and had a little romp with it around the neighborhood after dark.
First impressions: very nice light overall. For walking in the dark the eco (50lm) mode and a wide flood pattern light a very nice path. A quick twist of the focus ring and a few presses of the H button and this thing turns in to a lighting juggernaut that easily bests the full output of the high beams on my car.
I found the narrowest beam pattern is just a few degrees of twist before the hard stop of the focus ring but the widest pattern is at that hard stop, just enough to have to think about it but not enough that you'd notice unless you're paying attention.
The middle third of the focus range produces some mild shadowing in the center of the projection pattern as a result the three emitters but, again, nothing you'd probably notice unless you're looking for it. Another strange side-effect of the triple emitter/reflector/projector setup is that items close up will cast three distinct shadows.
Overall the operation is really easy for power on/off and brightness selection and the function of entering and exiting the two flash modes is a novel approach. I do wish Fenix would adopt a "beacon" mode where the unit would just flash about once per second at full power, perhaps one would hold down the "L" button for the 1.5s to get in to 'rescue' mode then pressing the "H" button would toggle between SOS and beacon mode. Likewise pressing the "H" button for the 1.5s would get to into "tactical flash" and then pressing the "L" button would toggle between several flash patterns.
One of the factors that led me to this light was the tripod mount to use this as a utility light while working on the car or to illuminate a camp site and that is a nice little touch but in the dark I have a hard time finding the power buttons as they are 180° opposite the mount. I think making the power buttons glow-in-the-dark or putting a very low level light behind them that activates with motion would be a welcome addition; I think I'm going to try putting some phosphor paint in the lettering recesses.

So: a small, bright, flexible lighting source with hours of runtime even at high outputs. What's not to love.

I've had this light for a while now and I'm really enjoying it. When set to flood, you get a huge, very even circle of light, almost like a theater spot light. Twist it to spot and you get a somewhat tight spot of light that easily illuminates things at a distance. Do note, the ECO mode on this light is 50 lumens so it's not a firefly mode but I don't feel it's needed in a light like this. I have plenty of sub lumen flashlights if I need them.
The bulk of my lights are cool what as the odd greenish tint of the neutral white never really appealed to me but I have to say that CREE got this one right with the XHP35 HI used in this light. This is easily the nicest tint of neutral LED I've seen and I really like it.
One thing I found with my FD30 that seems to be the same with the FD65 is if you leave the focus ring set to ether extreme when not in use, it's a bit difficult to rotate the ring again at first use. Because of this, I try to remember to leave the focus ring at a mid point and then it rotates freely every time when you need it.
Overall, an really great light and a nice addition to my collection.
