Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Lock the light or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation. Recharge a stored battery every four months to maintain optimal battery performance.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp’s performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: The battery needs replacing.
Solution: Replace battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact your authorized distributor.

It is very bright but it loses charge in my pocket. It is probably operator error. I have set both the electronic lock out as well as moved the belt clip over the activation button. Other than this problem it is a great little light. The magnetic tail cap is very handy

I rated it a 3 because when I received it I couldn’t get it to work and had to call about it. The gentleman who I talked with agreed it was probably a bad battery and he sent me one very quickly. That took care of the problem, it’s working now and it’s a great little light.

I really wanted to like it. I put it on my key chain and it constantly keep turning on by itself, and thus has always an empty battery. I wish the on/off button would be on the back like most others. Other than that small enough for EDC and pretty bright.

Hi Alexander – there are a couple ways to lockout the light to avoid this:

      Electronic Lockout Function
Lock: With the light unlocked, press the side switch twice within 0.5s. The light will blink twice on Med to indicate locked status.
Unlock: With the light locked, press the side switch twice within 0.5s. The light will be unlocked and activated on Low.
In locked status, clicking or pressing the switches will activate 2 one-second blinks to indicate locked status.

      Physical Lockout Function
Rotate the body clip to right above the side switch to avoid accidental activation. Move the two-way body clip away for normal use.

This light seems to get confused quite often. The switch stops responding and I have to remove the tailcap to reset it, then it works fine for a while. I also wish it didn’t have the strobe function. Really, I have never needed a strobe. It serves me no purpose and is just an annoyance when it gets accidentally triggered. Please stop putting a useless strobe into otherwise very useful flashlights!

I will have someone in our warranty/repair department contact you about the switch. If you don’t hear from them, please send an email to warranty@fenixlighting.com

  5. Ken C.

Love the size, magnet and potential brightness. Mine does not stay on Turbo with full charge, drops down one level. Try clipping it on your belt behind you, difficult. The RC09 was much easier to clip that way. Still, a very good light for a tradesman with magnet and clip to your cap feature while working. I’m still a big fan and have purchased at least 10 Fenix lights, but this one only gets a 3.

I thought this light would be the best one I could carry, but am disappointed. I still have a difficult time finding the button to turn it on in the dark, and the battery life indicator is good but several times I needed the light and the battery was dead with no warning. So far I like the RCF05 SE better and wish it had more lumens.

Hi David – one suggestion I have heard is to line up the pocket clip right next to the switch to help you find the switch in the dark quickly. If the battery indicator light isn’t working, and you haven’t done so yet, contact our warranty and repairs department. He is a little backed up right now from the holiday, but should get back to you in within 48 hours to see what’s going on.

Not exactly sure yet, but after the first charge the charge didn’t last long at all

Hi Ronald – feel free to contact our warranty department at warranty@fenixlighting.com – they are a little backed up right now getting caught up after the holiday, but they can help figure out what’s going on.
