This lantern somehow was smaller than I anticipated! I’ve already used it as a work light in several electrical panels, as well as a night light for my kids.

With the magnetic base, it was easy to find a place for it to mount (like a ceiling fan, or beam or even a binder clip attached to something else) and provides a surprising amount of light for the compact size!

Definitely a backpackers best friend with its low weight and high-output. Don’t forget about the red and green light modes, for those emergency situations! Looks like Fenix found a way to pack all the functions you might need into something you can comfortably carry in your pocket.

My only con would be the operation of the light. Sometimes it’s difficult to find that line between off and on and you may skip the mode you want unintentionally. This is a small annoyance, however, and I understand that it was a choice most likely made in the interest of weight/size. All-in-all I would (and already have) highly recommend the CL09 mini lantern to anyone!

I have purchased Fenix lights in the past and I am well satisfied with all. I own a CL05 Liplight and the usefulness of this light precipitated the recent purchase of a more powerful light, the CL09 Lantern.
My only complaint is that the gripping surface could be more pronounced/rougher as my older fingers have trouble firmly holding the portion of the lantern body that activates the switching and the 1 second lag between on and switching to the next mode is sometimes difficult to attain. A longer time lag between switching modes would also be more convenient for me and probably have little affect on the lantern’s function. All said; I really like Fenix lights.

Small handy powerful light with magnetic base and hanger
Light is 360 degres so on high settings needs to be above head

Just received this light yesterday, and I’m very impressed. I can’t wait to take it camping, will work great on a hammock ridge line to light up the tarp with a subtle green glow for night vision. As mentioned above, needs memory for the selected/most used modes, needs a on/off push switch, and last, would love to see this thing in a golden olive drab color for the outdoorsy men and women!

Having to cycle through all of the brightness modes to get to the red and green LED modes doesn’t work well. I use the colored LEDs in low light scenarios where I don’t want a bright white light to be seen.

Awesome little light. My only complaint is the hanging loop likes to stick to the tail magnet — meaning I have to pull it off of there before I can tail stand it or stick it to something. Maybe the hanging loop should be made of a non-magnetic material.
