FENIX PD40R V2.0 RECHARGEABLE FLASHLIGHT REVIEW

Fishing Ambassador John E.

This flashlight has a different type of switch to turn it on and off and the switch also changes its level settings. The flashlight has a ring around its body, located just behind the head of the flashlight. You rotate the ring to turn it on, and each click past the initial off position changes the flashlights intensity. The last click puts it into strobe mode. Before you reach the strobe mode (2,500 lumen ), there are 4 levels of light intensity ( 30, 350, 1,000 and 3,000 lumens ). I really, really like the way the flashlight operates. I feel it would be absolutely perfect, if the strobe setting was activated by its own independent switch. That being said, I find the operation of the flashlight smooth and predictable.
This flashlight runs on one 21700 rechargeable battery and I have become a big fan of them. They have a lot of amp hours and are still rather compact. I much prefer them over built in dedicated batteries which can limit the life of the flashlight in question.

The flashlight’s beam is a fairly balanced one. It may lean slightly toward spot, rather than flood. At the 3,000 lumen level, the light gets pretty warm after about 3 minutes. This also makes the adjustment ring warm. If you intend to run the flashlight at the highest level for extended amounts of time, gloves would be a good idea.

The PD40R V2.0 is a nice, rather compact, flashlight that can put out up to 3,000 lumens and that has a extended run times.
