Talking Points – Fenix E-Lite

Ambassador Justin J.

Philosophy of Use
• Can be used in a million different ways. Useful as a keychain light, hat light, running light, cycling light.
Size/Weight
• Less than half an ounce in weight and right at 2 inches in length. Think tiny. And then think tiny again. It’s so lightweight and small that you can toss it in a pocket and forget about it and never know it’s there. I affixed mine to my raincoat zipper to use anytime I need a quick burst of light without having to dig in a pocket. It’s light enough that it adds zero weight to a zipper. I clip it to my shirt pocket sometimes too and never know it’s there. Also, takes up little space on the bill of a hat.
LED/Lumens
• 150 max lumens. On low, at 5 lumens, it can run up to 20 hours. It also has a red and blue option. Both of those options also have blinking modes. The main white light is more than enough to use for walking or jogging at night. I’ve found that you may want to have a dedicated headlamp for running and then this Fenix E-Lite clipped to a shirt or pant. The blinking red and blue are more than bright enough to warn motorists of your whereabouts.
Beam Distance
• On white light it has a max of 141ft. Pretty impressive for such a tiny light. I have no trouble at all seeing what I need to see while out walking or jogging. The main white light is bright enough to use for shorter distances when trail running.
Functionality
• I truly like the direction Fenix went with this little light. It’s small and lightweight but doesn’t compromise its usefulness. It seems like it fits in anywhere that you need just a little bit of light. I’ve used it while out running, riding a bike, working under the house, working on the vehicle, baby stroller, you name it. I just recently started using it late in the evening to illuminate the books I’m reading. It comes in handy and offers more than enough light to read with.
Battery/Accessories
• USB Type-C charging cable, key ring. It has a built-in battery so once it’s depleted, you’ll need to put it on the charger. I tend to use lights like this for everything other than emergencies, although you could use this in a pinch if you needed to. I can see where it would come in handy in a time of emergency. May pair it up with an external battery pack for emergency use. I’ve noticed the battery lasts a long time on low and also with red and blue.
Durability/Reliability
• IP66. I’ve not had to use this in the rain, but it does indeed seem very robust. I don’t think I can ever recall Fenix making anything that didn’t go above and beyond the call of duty. The buttons are very durable and have a nice clickable feel to them.
Value
• Under $20. Fenix has been knocking these little lights out of the park lately. At this price you can pick a few of these up for friends and family. They will call you after they use it to tell you how awesome it is. Ask me how I know. People don’t understand what it’s like to own a good quality light until they’ve owned a Fenix.
Final Thoughts
• It’s great for sticking on a ball cap while reading.
• Fits in the little money change pocket of your pants.
• Can be used on a zipper pull on a coat.
• Toss it in the middle console of your vehicle for times when the overhead light isn’t directional enough.
• Works great for signaling. The red and blue flashing work wonders when pushing kids in the stroller.
• I think it would be a great light for fishermen as it can be clipped to the brim of a hat while fishing.
• The USB Type-C charging is quick and convenient. Glad to see more lights have this option as it’s much faster to charge. The old micro-USB takes forever after using Type-C.
• I’m glad Fenix included a little keychain ring as it allows to be hung from a lanyard too. Can wear around the neck if you don’t have a hat. The keychain ring also allows for attaching to a large assortment of item such as a backpack or belt.
• All in all Fenix has made an excellent illumination tool for less than the cost of 6 cups of coffee from your local coffee shop. Pick up a few for friends and family. They will thank you for it!
