Small and Bright E30R

Fire Rescue Ambassador Andrew H.

As a firefighter, I tend toward tactical style flashlights, so when asked to review the new E30R, it was a bit of a change from my usual flashlights. For a flashlight that’s under 4 inches long and about 1 inch around, this light doesn’t disappoint! The beam pattern of the E30R is a little wider than I’m used to (and a warmer color temperature), but the E30R makes up for it with more lumens boasting 1600 lumens in turbo mode!

This light charges with a proprietary magnetic charging connector, which worked great. There’s a little light on the cord that lets you know the status of the charging cycle. One benefit of this charging style is that the charging spot is on the opposite side of the light as the power button, giving a great landmark when turning the light on and off. Occasionally, I did have an issue of the light not turning on when holding the button, but not enough for it to be a big deal.

After using this light for several weeks, there are only two cons to this light that I can see (and it’s more personal preference). When turning the E30R on, it always defaults to the lowest brightness of 30 lumens. It gets you light, but then you have to push the power button to get the light output you need. The E30R also doesn’t come with a holster, which isn’t that big of a deal for most, but I usually keep my light on my hip, and it kept falling out of my PD35 Tac’s holster as it’s so small! Overall, this light stays true to Fenix’s build quality and durability. If you’re looking for a small EDC light that easily fits in a front pocket, the E30R is a perfect choice!
