PD40R V2.0 – Love the Rotary Switch

Ambassador Steve F.

The PD40R is another great flashlight in my arsenal. This light is bigger than I usually use for daily carry. This light is in one of my Go Bags as a power light. I am used to the tail switch on all of my other Fenix lights. The rotary switch near the front of the light takes some getting used to. My natural instinct is to trigger from the tail switch. However, once I got used to using the rotary switch, I found it quite easy to use. On my other tail switch lights it takes 2 steps to change the brightness. First the tail switch and then the separate power level button. With the rotary switch it is all done in one step.

I was riding my bike at night using the PD40R with my handle bar light mount. I encountered an aggressive dog. I switched over to the strobe and the dog scampered away wanting nothing to do with me. It was very nice to be able to quickly change from regular light to strobe with one twist of the rotary dial.

I am getting used to the battery level indicator on my newer Fenix lights. This is now a “must have” in my opinion. The USB-C charging is also a feature that I will want in all my future lights from Fenix.
