LR50R

Ambassador John G.

I wanted to order and check out and review some lights after the first of the year so I placed a fairly large order and have 3 lights to review.

This light was on the top of my list because of 12,000 lumen and over a half mile throw! I couldn’t wait to get this thing.

It came and I opened it up and thought Fenix mistakenly sent me Thor’s Hammer. This thing is a mammoth that weighs over 2lbs that most people would not be able to get a hand all the way around.

While it was charging I was checking out the included items. It comes with a shoulder sling that clips to a removable ring on the light as well as a holster and a lanyard. I always use the lanyards but with this I can understand the shoulder sling as an option. It is probably comparable to a brick, both in size and weight.

At dark it was charged so I took it out on my deck out back to my testing grounds. Insane is probably the first and best descriptor to come to mind. I’m sure I laughed when I turned it on and cranked it to Turbo or 12,000 Lumen. Even more ridiculous is that it will run for nearly 2 hours in that mode!

This would be a great addition to a police and fire departments alike. It would really be useful in all sorts of situations such as assessing a fire, looking for individuals in various places such as wooded areas, etc. The over half mile throw is so powerful that I cannot really come up with an instance where it would not be useful outside. I also think it could be really useful at home too. I live in a rural area and houses aren’t real close together. Because of that and the woods I have all sorts of animals here including coyotes. I also have 2 small dogs that I let out several times each night. I will be using this light when I go out with my dogs each night to light up my yard like daytime.

I used it here and there for a few weeks. My daughter has also used it when she visits. She never says anything about the numerous Fenix lights I own and review and that she doesn’t realize she is kind of reviewing too. She had a couple of friends over the one night and took that light out back with the dogs and upon coming back inside they were talking about this light being ridiculous and the 2 boys were asking me what it was.

Fenix calls this light a spotlight. I would likely call it a spot/floodlight. It emits so much light that it isn’t too far off from the LR40R in how much of my 1+ acre back yard it lights up.

Great light for emergency services and homeowners alike and could even be a back up hammer for Thor!

If you want something very sturdy and very bright this is it!
